its not a great analogy but the whole point of my analogy is that you cant reasonably expect everyone to act rational if you put a dangerous weapon in their hands. Therefore the option is not to give it to anyone. Yeah sure there are people who will obtain it illegally but those will most likely be gangs and criminals not people with fcked up lives who decide they want to have a GTA style rampage on innocent people

Well. The US healthcare system needs to FIX the problem, not just medicate it until their death.

That is one problem with the healthcare here. It relies a lot on profits. So if you are actually healing people of their sickness, then there is no profit. So it makes sense to keep medicating them with pills.

But it could be anything here. Maybe the criminals got dumped by their GF, lost their job, or lost a Halo match.

Your analogy is off. A more relevant version would describe hostile nations having access to nuclear weapons illegally, and bans them in calm/defensive nations. Yes, it would make sense to let the other nations have access to weapons to defend themselves against the hostile nations.. You can't expect people to react rationally, but you can expect people to defend themselves against you if you decide to attack. Know of many shootings at shooting ranges? Didn't think so.
