I think they've improved and added new tests over the years so it might be worth the $99. Were you surprised by your ancestry?

You have to watch out for this kind of stuff. These are becoming more and more popular and health insurance companies are honing in on this. If they do a background check on you, find that you've taken this test and see that you have a high risk for some terminal illness, they will take that into consideration.

Then there's also the idea of a company having your DNA and genetic information on file. I'm not saying that this company is doing anything malicious, but I can see it used for more maleficent causes.

It really sucks that this is the world we live in. I'd do this in a heartbeat if I had the money to waste, and if I wasn't so paranoid.

I have read a little bit about this a while ago and I thought that there are too many external factors for them to tell you if you are going to get a disease (like cancer) just based on your genetics

Two of my brothers have diabetes and not one other person in both sides of the family ever had it, over the decades. Randomly showed up in my family.

Disease traits may be a bit ambiguous, because they can be environmentally influenced but the heritage information is pretty spot on. We did the saliva test in my genetics lab last semester and found out our heritage. As it turns out, i'm more Native American then black....go figure.

Yes it does but genes aren't everything. You can't smoke 3 packs everyday for 30 years and not expect to get throat or lung cancer.

very cool but 3d drug printing is a long way off. Physical prototypes like makerbot haven't even gone mainstream yet.

Obviously but just look how far genome mapping has come in the last 10 years. It used to be millions upon millions to map one person and now you can get it for $99? Fukking incredible.

Absolutely. Within the next 10 to 20 years I'm sure DIY genome testing kits will be available at an affordable price. That's advancement for yah.
