    Smith Machine Bench

    Hey.

Would benching on the smith machine help increase bb bench?
current gym has no bench and can only use smith machine or dumbbells there.

    cheers

I would not enter a gym that has no bench.

Smith bench is bad because benching is not a straight up and down movement and puts a lot more pressure on the shoulders.

I would recomment doing db bench anyway.

I would seriously either look for a different gym or workout at home though, they are probably lacking in other equipment.

i would never join a gym that had no free weight bench or squat areas, but work with what you got for now. the carry over will not be linear, but it's not like you will get on free weight bench weeks later and have to drop the weight by 50% or more, at least you SHOULDN'T if you're training correctly.

i understand the financial aspect...if they have heavy dumbbells, those would be a great option as well. is it possible for your parents to help you out with affording a better gym? (going by your age) maybe in exchange for extra chores/jobs or something of the sort?
