Looks like Matt only uses bumpers when squatting, which is why I figured he'd be fine to bail.

fwiw, I teach to not bail on anything unless you just have to and if you train on your own, get inside the rack. Two things, safety #1, and #2, it teaches bad habits.

Also bailing on a front squat with no safeties is easy, you just let the weight tip forward and it'll avoid you as long as you hop back slightly too.

granted I've had to bail on cleans before, so I'm used to the idea of doing that.
I think she was as surprised as I was that it happened, but I figured just run with it and act normal, and she'll think she imagined it.

That part of the gym only has bumpers. I use that side because we're allowed chalk there. I can always move to the other side of the gym on a power rack with safeties for FS PR days. It's not a big deal to me.

Just a pain because I have to lug my bag around when I'm not really allowed to. I'll adapt, no problems.

I'm not looking to bail unless I absolutely have a catastrophic meltdown/failure, but like I said above, I can move over to the other side of the gym for my front squats. Back squats I'm not worried about.

Wade's very happy with the decline, as am I. OHP I'm still iffy on, but that'll come with time. It's not a competition movement anyways, so I'm not super worried.

So we're in a bit of a pickle around my parts.

I work in the public sector. Education. IT for a school board up here in Quebec.

The provincial government has been cutting tons of money from essential services in education, medical, and other sectors of public services. All the while increasing their salaries, bailing out a private company (Bombardier), imposing unfair class sizes on teachers, taking away resources, etc.

Now, we're unionized, and seeing as the government wasn't budging on anything, we had no choice but to start rounds of rolling strikes to protest the unfair changes. A few people believe that we're on strike because we're not being paid enough, but the HUGE issue is really what's happening to teacher's class sizes, resources, and their receiving aid with coded (aka: special needs) children in the classroom. Most everyone gets that, think it's unfair, and are supporting our strikes (these strikes are not only being put on by the teachers' union, but the support staff union, the maintenance workers' union, and the professionals' association... so yeah).

Sadly, a small group of people feel that what's going on is "atrocious", that it's hurting the children (when most kids and parents realise and understand and support us all), etc. etc.

So what did they decide to do?

What anyone who doesn't understand something does. They formed a collective (the Red Sceptre) and sent out an email to schools in Ontario and Quebec, with bomb threats.

    Yep. Bomb threats.

So we're on a bit of an alert here, even though we haven't been threatened yet. Figured I'd talk about it here, 'cause honestly it's weird and I wanted to share.

The current government made huge promises about injecting money into the education sector, FINALLY easing what's been a really rough 20 years (there was a huge education reform in the 90's that sucked. A lot.)... but in actuality that's the first place they started cutting when they came into power.

Not even talking about all the other sh*t, we're looking at a 3% salary increase over 5 years (that's 0%, 0%, 1%, 1%, 1%), which doesn't match the cost of living.

They'd be giving themselves a 55% salary increase this year.

A few other ridiculous "injections" of money into pockets, too.

Nah, I meant the threats. That's sh*tty though, especially the divide between your pay hike and theirs. But hey, it's nothing new for new governing parties to say one thing and do the other.

Ah. See the above answer for the threats. Dumb kids.

As for the second, we were kinda hoping that it was going to be a breath of fresh air. Lots of promises to the education/public sector after the last government (Parti Québecois) tried to divide us on language, made other cuts to education and the like, etc.

We're effed in the eh either way.

So it's really no different than in America with them gutting teachers salaries and resources and then wondering why our education sucks

I don't think I'll be hitting a 200 OHP any time soon as it's not a main lift, but it'll increase as we go on for sure

    nice skwaaaaaaaats.

Nice to hear about running for a leadership position and never scabbing...wish the US still had strong union like you folks do up North. One day I'd like to work in the Toronto area, however the fact that unemployment doesn't get transferred over kind sucks...but I hear you can make MAD BANK up there though.

I like the alternating width stances
Thanks Woodman. Yeah, the stances are nifty. I'm usually beat after the wide sets.

It's not so bad yet. Not as bad as FS/trap/deads day, to be honest. That one has me dragging my feet upstairs.

Give this a few more sessions, though, and I'll be hurtin'

    Thanks Jason!

Not really leadership right yet. Just a "dissemination of information" position for now. If I enjoy it, I might take the "role of the delegate" course, and gain a bit more power. But for now I just want to get people informed about stuff

Mad bank, probably, depending on where you go. The crap I do here at work isn't at all reflected in my salary, lemme tell you.
