unless your going for certain majors, your pretty much right. I know over 10 people at my work making like $12 an hour with a college degree because they can't find a job in their field.

Ill list most of the degrees, math (i think probablity), one wants to be a teacher, marine biology, PHD in Biochemistry, Criminal Justice, Accounting, Business.

only people i know who get jobs are engineers. My brother graduated school with a degree in chemical engineering. Got a job making 60k a year plus benefits.

Accountants always get jobs.
Business, they can start their own business instead of working for other people.

Engineering is decent but it is better to do something for yourself then to be a loan slave.

Not everyone has a job because of competition. If your field has enough jobs for 80% of the people qualified in that field, then you better phuarking make sure you are at least in the top 80%. The same goes for specific types of jobs in those fields, etc.

College is an institution that gives you knowledge AND legitimacy. You might know your chit but its hard for people to trust that you do. Baller positions don't tolerate mistakes so they want the best people that perfectly jumped through every hoop AND knows their chit.

OP you have a valid point in that some people go to college, and they get almost useless degrees like a general arts or general studies degree. But there are a lot of jobs that require a certain degree with a certain set program.. not to forget college matures you socially-wise. Brb making 70k with an associates because I'm in a networking admin program.. yeah that 10k in debt doesn't really amount to much does it?

Brah I'm going into network admin as well but didn't go to college learned all through CBTNuggets etc.
Although this is just one spectrum but for the most part school may not be for some people, school is for some people.

You do however need a college degree in order to get licensed to work in some fields. You can be the most amazing autodidact the Cardio-Vascular Surgery world ever encountered, but you'll still never get hired to perform open heart surgery without a medical license.

There's no real reason you shouldn't be able to. The education system now is pretty inefficient. It would be just as good to self-study, take exams, and get OJT in a hospital.

True. Like the ASE exam or ISSA. But for actual degrees like to be a nutritionist or a doctor you just need credits for certain classes. My degree in nutrition covers so much more than nutrition though. I cover everything from food production and control to nutrition in a healthcare setting, etc.
