    Skullcrushers vs overhead extension

Hey guys, do you all think it's redundant to include both within the same triceps work-out? I tried overhead extensions with a dumbbell in one hand and I finally felt my long head getting fried, so I want to include them more, but I feel like skullcrushers & overhead extensions in the same workout would be redundant.

For the more experienced guys, which one do you guys find more effective?

not redundant at all. Most of my tricep days are skull crushers, overhead extentions, push downs (rope usually) and maybe cgbp

i actually do them both in the same workout usually. but i wont do them right after the other. for skulls, every week i change up the angle from flat, incline and decline. i feel they all hit the tri's differently so i like to switch it up. for the overhead extension, i use the regualr seated db version, but i also use a version with a cable and a rope. i set the cable at around waist level and attach a rope extension to it, grab each end of the rope, give your back to the cable and extend the rope all the way up over your head. i like this version as well because the resistance is completely different, so i use them both as well. one every week seems to be perfect so i keep my workouts fresh and interesting.

I do them back to back. I start out with rope pulldowns to get my tri's warmed up. Then will do skulls then OH extensions or extensions then skulls. I finish with 1 arm pulldowns for a burn out.

I find that triceps only need 1 or 2 compound exercises and 1 isolation. Although this depends on the split, if you do tris after chest then my point holds up but as part of an "arms" day or something then you should do more exercises, particularly isolation. So I would cycle between these 2 exercises and have dips/cgbp as the compound, up to you though...

It depends on the type of Skullcrushers you're doing. If you're doing more of a French Press type where the elbows go behind and below thur head then the overhead extension would be redundant. If you really were hell bent on destroying the long head then do both.
