I've had a huge body solid home gym system in our basement for probably 15 years that my dad had bought. no one uses it so it looks like we're getting rid of it and I was going to get a power rack to put in place. I read through the sticky and it appears one of the recommended ones is for sale from a local equipment seller on CL. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/sgd/3440543482.html
Suggestions/opinions on this? the most weight I would ever currently use is maybe around 300 on rack pulls. I'm used to using high quality power racks at a few different gyms.. is there anything i'm going to be disappointed in with this?

just so you know that guy is a reseller and that rack is up there fairly regularly, so don't feel like you have to jump at this deal.
You should call Fitness Exchange to see if they have any used racks.Boomer Rep Crew #1

It's a decent rack. New York Barbells (which makes the TDS racks) has spotty quality control at times, but I've bought a couple of products from them before and never had a problem.
Is the rack used? The picture from the ad looks to be for model #C92563, which is $329 new: http://www.newyorkbarbells.com/92563.html

The same rack along with a high low cable/pulley attachment has been sitting in my area for couple of months for 300$. I am sure the seller would take go lesser than 300...

So I wouldnt say that its a great deal. Ofcos, it is lesser than retail price and saves shipping. But with some patience you will get better deals on CL... try looking for some individual owners/sellers. You might get a better deal than stores.

I believe that the power rack is new. I bought my Troy AOB-1500B barbell from that guy, and it was new in the tube. He has some kind of deal with NYBB where he is able to order stuff from them and resell it. Unless that is the rack of your dreams, you may want to keep looking around, the racks he is selling will be available on an ongoing basis.

Why do i even try? Why do i even continue when the path infront of me seems diluted by goals and expectations of people around me i don't even care about but i still pretend too. Why do my friends want me to go out with them when i know i'm not there, i'm not showing my true self, i'm just a formation of personalities I've mixed together to appeal to all minds but deep down inside i don't really care about them. I don't care what they think, i just want them to pretend they know me, trick then into thinking they can understand me and see similarities between myself and them, to seem normal, to have power over them and they know how i react to something they say to me. But truly i am a completely different person.

A lot of racks tend to be 83-84", which was a problem for me since my ceiling is only 83". I eventually went with a Body Solid GPR 378, which contrary to the specs listed everywhere, is 79".
You can purchase sumo-style racks (with no supports at the top), half racks (a pair of uprights and spotter arms instead of a 4-sided cage), or you can look for taller racks. They make 88"-108" racks, but they tend to be a more expensive. If you want to pursue half racks, take a look at the Rogue S2 or S3 squat stands paired with 20" spotter arms.

hmm.. I just measured it out. We have a crossbeam that appears to be 83" and my hands hit it if I put them straight up. So I either need something taller or open topped. Aside from the crossbeam our ceiling is close to 100" I think so we have plenty of room for something taller.. this would be preferable since I often lift with no one else home.
I'm looking and you're right, most are ~82". So that makes things more tricky... I'd have to get lucky as hell to find a tall one used in the area. Open end style isn't ideal because we want a pull up bar.Last edited by cgibsong002; 12-08-2012 at 09:54 AM.

call me crazy, but as one random idea - i've seen a youtube video of guys squatting around 500 in a homemade rack made from pressure treated lumber.
