Let me try one more time for your tiny mind. Either you use enough weight that you don't have to slow the second pull - 85% being the minimum on full snatch, you don't have to use your full max - or you accept catching it high and riding it down as the lesser of two evils, if your form isn't dialled in and you tend to cut your second pull shorter than it should be. Either way you don't slow your second pull. Because yes, that's bad.
I'm sorry you have reading difficulties. We'll check some picture books out of the library for you and you can work up from there.training log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=153696161&page=51

And yet we see this horrendousness,
Maybe you should first learn how to power snatch.
Hey look, you don't even need to set up those stupid step up blocks.
This x a number so high I can't count to it because I'm so dumb.

I would never ever ever listen to mark rippetoe for the fundamentals on power cleans or power snatches or any form of the olympic lift.
His way of teaching is so far off what actual olympic coaches teach it just ****s **** up.
Learning to power clean/snatch his way caused me to have to unlearn many things over these months.
So no posting of mark rippetoe for Oly Lifting.
Edit: I should say if you want to compete in Oly lifting.
If all you want is to get stronger then fine. But Izzy seems like a person who wants to compete, so going the rip way will screw her up more.
Her shoulders are already in front of the bar ala Rip's way of saying to do things, but that causes too many wild misses if trying to translate the power lift to a full lift.Last edited by Filmbuff81; 02-02-2013 at 08:53 AM.

I don't mean at a top level, but for fun at local meets.
So why try to learn a technique that may lead to more frustration? She already has high hips and shoulders in front similar to Rip's teachings and that is causing some issues.
I say start back with hang variations and keep following Pendlay's progression videos.
It will teach proper positions better than rip style power cleans/snatches.the latest and greatest in training...or whatever.

I power snatch just fine. I power snatched for months before I tried a full snatch; if you actually read my journal instead of just wakechica's you'd know that. Why would I post a video of that? No one cares about power snatching, it's a training tool, not a full lift. Thanks for posting video I put up to get help to fix my form problems, at a time when I can't post new video of how much better it is now, because I'm injured. That's nice of you.
Once you hit 85% on "those last reps toward the upper end of your max", you can use your full second pull speed with no problems. But if you can't lock out that much weight overhead yet, you should never practice learning a full snatch with anything lighter? Bullsh!t. Read Takano and educate yourself: http://www.synergy3training.co.uk/do...n_and_jerk.pdf
I'm sorry you're mad that there might be opportunities for me here. But if you wanted me to come to the Boynton Barbell Club instead, when and if it exists, you're going about convincing me the wrong way.training log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=153696161&page=51

I'm not old enough to have watched that show. But did Diane try to prove her point in an argument by stooping to the level of saying she's not going to come to an imaginary location that we all know she was never gonna visit in the first place? That definitely proves someone is right and the other one is wrong...if u r 5 years old. Maybe I should claim that the only way to get your clean & jerk up is by doing biceps curls. And if you don't agree with me, I will post up all the pictures, videos, and convos izzy has sent me for all to see.

A young woman went to her grandmother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.
Her grandmother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and after firing up the wood stove she placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil, without saying a word. In about twenty minutes, she removed the pots from the stove.
She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her granddaughter, she asked, “Tell me what you see.”
“Carrots, eggs and coffee” the granddaughter replied. Her grandmother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The grandmother then asked the girl to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hardboiled egg. Finally, the grandmother asked her granddaughter to sip the coffee. The girl smiled. As she tasted its rich aroma, she asked, “What does it mean?”
Her grandmother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity – boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its insides became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.
You are the carrot, stop being a carrot. You are also the dumb granddaughter that can't tell she's a carrot but that is neither here nor there.1372 @ 205

Arian I think has a point - you could pick up a training bar (used) relatively cheap. A gym I use at weekends has girls training on oly bars with thin wooden 'bumper' plates that don't weigh much. Or they use a training bar with wooden plates and 2.5kg normal weights. You can probably buy these plates or get the diameter of an oly bar and also a bumper plate and make your own otherwise you'll just be spinning your wheels.
Other option - stop oly lifting an work on your strength other ways I.e bench, dead, squat and OHP with accessory work. I think you're trying to do too much early: oly lift, build basic strength to manage oly lift etc without a base strength which you could easily bring up with PLing for 3-6months. You're doubling your workload at the moment. Just my observations, not a dig by any means.

^^^ this .. you cannot learn oly lifting alone
it's the reason why I picked powerlifting instead of oly lifting, no coaches in my area and I don't have the time to drive 2 hours to train
Izzy, there's a oly lifting club stick with them as much as you can... but you know that
invest in a set of these

You have a point. But how do I become coffee beans?
negged for defiling my journal with crochet.
hopefully you're at least entertained...
That's true, I could always ask if the Y would store a women's bar for me. I suspect the answer would be no but you never know. The problem is that our weight room is on the top floor of a six story building (.....) and they will not let us drop any weights, even if we brought our own bumpers. I have asked. Exploring other gym options at the moment but they are limited, far away, or extremely expensive. But I agree I need to figure out something.
That question gets asked in the Oly forum a lot and the general answer is, start learning technique right away, because it takes a while, and hopefully by the time you have a good base strength, your technique will be good enough to add weight to the Oly lifts. When you're not loading them up, they aren't that taxing anyway. I can do a hundred clean and jerks with the bar with no significant impact on recovery, for example. My workouts look long but the technique work doesn't cost the same as lifting real weight.
I absolutely will. And I would, but I have nowhere to use them right now.training log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=153696161&page=51
