Can't gain weight no matter what I try

I've been weightlifting on and off for about 2 years now. I'm 17 years old, 6"4.5 and 143 pounds. I am VERY skinny. No matter what I do though it seems as if I can't gain weight. I've tried the weightlifting 4,000 calorie a day diet (8 small meals that add up. I did this for about 2 months and actually lost 2 pounds. I went from 146 - 144) Get that. Even on the days I didn't work out I ate 4,000 calories) and I'd even gotten so desperate at one point I actually tried this thing I called on the internet called "The McDonalds Diet" which focused on getting me as fat as possible as fast as possible. I did it for 2 months and the only thing it did was make me lose 1 pound.

Point is, 4,000 calories a day is already pushing it, and it's really hard to weight lift and stay motivated when after 2 months you actually lose weight. My body fat percentage is really low (I'm not skinny fat, I'm just really skinny) and I've even tried to run. No matter what body part I try to work out, or whatever plan I follow, after the suggested rest period is over, I still suffer from muscle pains.

Is there any bro that wants to help me out and give me pointers? I've tried pure fat calories, protein calories, etc. The max I've ever been able to bench is roughly 70ish pounds no matter how much I work out and it's just really depressing.

Post up your daily "diet", with precise measurements/estimations of everything you've eaten. Your without a doubt not eating as much as you think you're eating.

Its gotta be ur diet or training frequency.
There are tons of routines on bb.com to choose from, but if you're not eating enough calories u won't make gains. There's an app called myfitness pal that could help you track your calories. Good luck bro.

If you were truly eating 4000 calories a day for 2 months while lifting there isn't any way you would lose weight, simple as that.
Like the above poster said, tell us what you eat and how much of it you eat and all that.

Bench only 70lbs? It may not even be your diet at all, you need to train harder. If you really are that weak that you can only bench that much, you need to re-evaluate your mental capacity. You need to be angry at that weight, dwell on it all day. Fck, I get angry that I can barely bench 315. Every day I look at myself in the mirror and get pissed off and say that I should be bigger, stronger, better. This is what should motivate you, a mental drive that only you can understand. I can't help you with this in any other way than to just aware you of it and allow you to tap into your inner mental strength. If you're truly doing what you say you're doing, then this is the problem.

It really is just a matter of eating more. I just stopped drinking a half gallon of whole milk a day (had been doing it for about 30 days) and saw good weightgain. Just increase your calories!

4k at your weight and not gaining does not sound right. You either are doing to much cardio or weights/ work during the day or have a crazy ass metabolism. Look at some easy calories options as well. Nuts/trail mix packed with calories, drink a gallon of milk a day, put olive oil on your food, etc.

You might have some sort of eating disorder if you really are eating 4k cals. Someone on my Uni course has this thing (I can't remember what it's called) it begins with an "E"... something like emer, or emew, e-something. Anyway, he finds it really hard to put on weight...

    However...

You aren't training hard enough. Even if you don't put on the weight from the food, and you keep relatively the same weight. If you try your hardest and get out 4-6 reps of something really heavy for your strength on compound exercises, frequently... you will 100% notice a difference.

Can't lift that weight? ****ing try harder.

I also look at myself in the mirror each day and see every little flaw to do with my physique and I make sure that when I go to the gym I absolutely push out every single last repetition I can until my body physically cannot do it any more.
When you want to succeed, as bad as you want to breathe... then you'll be successful.

    4K cals? vegan?

Get a decent app like myfitnesspal make sure your counting the calories properly, also keeping an eye on the macros. 1g protein per pound body weight MINIMUM. Increase you calories a couple of hundred each week until you notice a gain.

I also found when I stopped binge drinking on a weekly basis I started gaining decent mass.

What's your current gym routine like?
Abs on a skinny guy is like tits on a fat chick, just doesn't count!!

Either you're constantly doing things that would drastically increase your TDEE, or you're not calculating calories in properly. I've been successfully gaining weight on ~3200 cals per day, and I'm just estimating on a good bit of the stuff.

You should try doing a good 20 sets per muscle try doing super set/ pyramids for one exercise in there some where etc. Eat heaps! I struggle like **** to put on weight I basically have to force feed my self bucket loads compared to what I usually eat and take some cell tech creatine with mutant mass gainer youll at least put on some fat too lol. With the mutant mass makes you fart and **** hard lol but worth it. If all else fails take a shot of test and some dbol pills hahaha.

    good luck!
