    Help with maintenance cals !

    Hi all, I'm currently 231lbs, roughly around 23% bf and I'm 6"1.

I've worked out my cutting cals and its apparently 2.5k cals... that doesnt sound right?
how many calories should i be cutting on? maintaining as much lean muscle mass (obviously) as possible.
    thanks

No thats definately about right. I worked out mine right and got 2700 cals for maintaining. I personally think its to high so you have to test it out. Do it for a week see if you gain/lose or stay the same on a scale

I'm new to this but 2500 calories at 231 lbs. sounds like you'd be on the way to losing weight rapidly. I have my maintenance weight around 2400 calories and I'm only 174 pounds.

I work out 3x a week using a kind of HIT-philosophy but otherwise am mostly inactive.

What's your workout schedule? If you're lifting heavy, you probably need more calories to keep muscle building high which in turn will burn the fat.

With a sedentary job and about 1 hour of lifting I would be in a 300-500 calorie deficit at 2.5k calories. I also weigh 175. You could easily cut at 2800-3000 per day. Just start with that and monitor your progress.

Do not listen to the numbers these guys are throwing out. First of all, everyone's lifestyle is different. The number of calories you burn per day may be different than someone else. It also depends on your body composition. Therefore, even if there is another person that is 175lbs, he may have to eat more cals than you or less. To figure the approximate amount, I would first do a test trial. What you should do is approximate how much calories you should eat and do that for 1-2 weeks. If you are consistently losing 1-3 lbs per week, that's about the amount you should eat. If you are gaining, of course lower the cal amount. If you are losing too much, up the cals. It's simple as that. All you need to do is trial and error. There is no calculator or formula to get this number. Hope this helps!

This is very bad advice, as estimation with the forumlas contained in the sticky provide a very good starting point from which to refine intake based on empirical findings.

I said do not base your calorie intake off of formulas. But you can get an approximation FROM the formulas/calculators and do TRIAL and ERROR using those numbers.
