Decline Exercises - Waste of Time ?

I've been looking at upgrading my home equipment, getting a new Power rack and bench. Just about everyone said getting a FID bench was a waste of time, better to get a flat bench or a flat to incline bench

so what's the deal with decline exercises ? are they worthwhile ? or only if your at a high level and want that extra bit of refinement ?

I'm a lower intermediate level trainee.

I'm not a fan, but decline angles definitely have their place. I would prioritize a flat/incline bench over one that goes decline as well if cost is a concern, though.
Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

I'd stick to flat/incline. You can do alot of pushup variations that will hit your lower pecs too.

If you can get a quality flat/incline/decline bench for around the same price as a flat/incline bench, I'd take the bench that allows you to go decline. Why limit your options on what you can do if you don't have to?

This, if the option is available why not take it.

    For me absolutely not.

We all vary but Decline overhead tricep extensions and decline barbell bench moves are staples in my training. Ab moves can be nice as well.

I'd go for the FID any day over a limitation. You never know when you'll get bored of a training style anyway (or maybe want to do some chest moves less stress on your shoulders) You may want to throw in some decline moves and won't have it. Unless its a budget issue, may as well pay for the flexibility.

Honestly, I think it's all preference. I've heard people say that flat bench is not needed if you do decline and vice versa. Try it, if you don't like it, then do what works best for you.

Thanks guys, it's not a money issue, they seem to be about the same price anyway, but the flat/incline benches seem stronger

Mr Yates is an advocate of slight decline over flat benching.

Its easier on the shoulder joints as well.

Do a variety and see what gives you best results.
