    long distance running destroy gains?

    I need to run 3-4 miles everyday the next 2 weeks to get ready for a pt test. havent ran in about 5 months. do you think this will kill any of my gains?? or will eating enough do the trick. Lift 5 days a week. bodybuilding high rep scheme.

    If you eat more calories to compensate the extra you are burning while running, you wont be loosing anything.

    Does not. It all depends on your metabolism IMO; I can run all the time and I just get thinner. I don't get weaker.

    if you eat enough (especially protein) to compensate for the running then you shouldn't lose anything

    Endurance running increases cortisol levels, and this can limit gains, but you shouldn't lose anything as a consequence.

    However, you need to make sure that you have consumed sufficient carbs around 30 mins prior to your run, in order to ensure that your body doesn't break down lean muscle mass for energy. (You can't use body fat for energy without the presence of sufficient carbs, unless you're in a state of ketosis).

    And if you do any runs longer than 40 minutes, take energy gels or an energy drink with you to fuel up on route.
