Bolded: Not the function of technology, but simply poor parenting. I work with students and parents all day, everyday. Not very scientific, but after ten years of doing it, I simply cannot/will not blame phones/technology. Technology reveals issues for sure, but cause and affect? Not so far as I can see.

All three of my children are so far, successful. However, my oldest son (like so many others) doesn't even listen to a voice mail....he just calls back....maybe (and he's closest to me!). Guilty? I'll bet most here are. My second son? He's pretty good about answering his phone and calling back (being fair here). My daughter? Rarely answers her phone, but will call back after a missed call.

In any event, their ^ default choice is to "text"...even when they're not engaged in "anything".

Yes, our communication level, as humans, has been greatly diminished, not enhanced, imo.

And...to be a real, "Get off my grass" kinda old guy...email started this trend. Precious, always used (but lol, even today's youth doesn't use email!) and made people sitting 10' feet away in offices stop "talking" to each other.
