Like, after all those years of slavery and discrimination
why the hell do some black people still live in the south? blows my mind
if I was black, I would be living anywhere but the south.

I honestly think quite a few of them don't enjoy snow, so they move or stay south. I've never met a black person that enjoyed as much snow as the north or northeast gets. Plus the south has a lower cost of living.

Dead serious. My uncle is the only exception I know and he lives in Pennsylvania for his job and wife's family. If not for them I believe he'd be back down towards the south.
But a more realistic view is probably that they just never moved and set up roots after the war and their families just stayed put.
