It's not that clear cut.
American football is an American sport. If you grew up in NZ, Australia, Tonga, Samoa, etc., what exposure would you have to NFL? No one is playing it at school/college. A Maori kid would dream of playing for the All Blacks. So if he one day he makes the squad, is he going to suddenly turn around and throw that away to try out for a sport he has no experience playing?
I wouldn't argue that some NFL players would be devastating in rugby if they turned their back on the big money in NFL, but there's really no point comparing the two sports because they're completely different.
Anyway, if we're talking about numbers, Stephen Paea from New Zealand got 49 reps on bench in the combine last year. If he didn't move to the US in his teens he'd still be playing rugby.
Finally, drug testing in rugby is governed by WADA. Put the same protocols in place for NFL and you won't see the same levels of speed and strength.

I've been going around everywhere today with an improperly buttoned shirt.
Skipped a hole buttoning it up so it's been crooked on me all morning.
Winning.

I am thinking of using the word "perogy" in place of the word "prerogative". Your thoughts?

Home with a sick kid today - I've changed 8 poopy diapers, and 3 of them have required outfit changes.

I wonder if in 150 years or so people will be having World War/Vietnam/Iraq/Afghanistan/etc. reenactments?
I mean it almost sounds in bad taste to suggest so, but I wager you would've gotten a similar reaction if you asked the same question after the war in 1865.
But look at people now. Having a jolly old time getting dressed up and playing the North vs. South.
Not a sermon. Just a thought.

This was a few years ago: Some soccer kids in CA wanted to name their team Mujaheddin or some thing of that sort. Their argument was that people name their sport teams Vikings, Barbarians etc all the time.
Similar to what you are saying. It is probably only ok after the generation involved in the war and their kids and grandkids are gone.

Besides, it is easier to reenact a war where people lined up on a field and shot at one another. For WWI and WWII, you need to dig trenches; for Vietnam, you need a jungle and rice fields; and for the Gulf Wars I and II you need a lot of dust, sand etc. Too much work.

It is easy to reenact select battles from the Civil War due to the relatively primitive warfare. Everyone pretty much had muskets and canons and ran around an open field, like a bunch of *******s. However, WW1, WW2, and later wars involve much more technically advanced battle sh*t. For example, how would one reenact a Vietnam battle scene, with gunships flying around, to and fro, blowing the anus out of ground troops? F*ck if I know. Well, there was that scene in the movie Rushmore where the lead character puts on a play and provides a somewhat realistic simulation of a Vietnam skirmish. I would also imagine the trench warfares of WW1 and WW2 were pretty boring, well without the massive deaths occuring. Anywho. Apropo, the Civil War seems much easier to romanticize. It was just North vs South. However, there are a lot of people who had reservations of the Vietnam and later wars even occurring in the first place. There were more emotions going on. I don't know.

They only reenact wars so the idiots in the south can pretend that they won the war of northern aggression.
Most southerners are probably not aware that there were other wars in our country's brief history.
Cheers.Who was this love of yours?

Plus big ole Peter Gibbons who pulled no punches on Farles in week one. That's at least 7.
Coincidence that the despondency comes at the same time Me, Manlysauced and Taab are the names listed for playoff berth competition for bragging rights without limitation? Hard to say.
