My soon-to-be-15-year-old nephew and I were discussing gun laws this evening. Even he says additional gun laws won't work. I didn't put ideas into his head. He said that himself.
He told me there is already an armed police officer assigned to his high school and surrounding parking lot.
BTW, his high school is far from the KCK ghetto.

Banning high powered cars will solve nothing. It's a basic human right to drive a 460 hp car, just because other people use them to break the speed limit and run people over does not mean they are dangerous in and of themselves. If we gave everyone a high powered car then drivers who intended to drive recklessly would be stopped by other drivers of high powered cars before they could run too many people over. In fact, I think having speed limits is also an infringement upon my rights. Define "reckless" driving. Define "speeding".

Somewhat unrelated, but Kansas actually makes no distinction between careless and reckless driving. The careless/inattentive driving ticket I received in Missouri in '07 became reckless in Kansas when the Dept of Revenue received the ticket. As a result, KS revoked my license for 90 days in '07.

In a way it did. I rear-ended a car on an interstate (the group of 3 cars just sitting there stranded in the right lane when the backup wasn't for another mile). All 4 of us drivers received the careless driving citation. Missouri uses the points system (maybe 1 point), but Kansas doesn't use the points system.
I was not paying attention to the road, pure and simple.
But the reckless driving charge was almost double-jeopardy going from careless to reckless.

That insanely quick drive/TD make me glad I decided to pull the 9'er defense...just in case...and leave my DEF slot empty...finalizing my matchup with a win, securing 5th place in the final standings.
Yay....5th.

Farley,
I never wanted to debate... But when I read that article and the part you quoted was taken completely out of context by yourself I couldn't just walk away. FWIW I try to read most posts in here, the long ones included, including anything linked by the regulars (e.g. I read the entire Mother Jones article, etc).
Sorry for the long delay in responding btw; I was out taking photos most of the day. Almost caught frostbite on this one:

It was a fact, and one that easily stands on its own as it does not rely on or reference anything else. I don't think it needs a context.
And, like I said, I'm not going to put the time/effort into going through an entire article again because nobody cares, most people have already made up their minds and to even pretend to try and open them up to new facts/ideas, IMO and IME, requires an IRL FTF encounter. If/when somebody disagrees with anything that I said when discrediting the mother jones article, I will consider actually putting effort into it again. I doubt that will happen, though.
I get to play Santa tomorrow, basically...but now I can't find the Santa hat I bought at Target

That you say this just means you didn't read as far as the *next paragraph* of the article... where the author explains why the fact in question doesn't stand on its own at all but is correlated to overall drop in crime rates over the time period.
Thank you - I will have to play around with that digital ND grad.
Thanks guys. Yeah it was below 0 deg. F during this outing and my fingers started to get unusable (almost total loss of dexterity) so I called it quits. A little pain was worth the result though!
