Deep forearm soreness and weakness after deadlifts.

I deadlifted Friday after more than a month off without any exercise. I did about a total of 40 reps with maybe 270lbs (not in a row, obviously).

Forearms have always gotten hit hard after deadlifts for me.

Anyway cut to yesterday, when I attempted to lift again as I was no longer crippled by DOMS.

I managed one with 270, then had to switch to 225 as my forearms were screaming so bad, by ten reps (not even in a row) I had to stop, it just hurt really bad to hang on to the bar. Is this just a case of my body recovering slowly? My forearms were still sore before the workout, though not as bad.

Today my forearms are sore again, lol. They do, however, 'feel' stronger / bigger, despite my pathetic workout yesterday. Any thoughts? I was really depressed after that workout. Luckily it wasn't a complete waste of time as my bench press showed improvement.

double overhand. i never bother with a mixed grip as i rarely go very heavy and the risks would outweigh the benefits for me (I have scoliosis in my back, so better safe then sorry).

I doubt it, the pain felt more like extreme soreness, the kind you'd feel if you didn't work out for ages and then killed yourself in the gym. But yeah I was hydrated, I always drink plenty of water between each set. I make it a point to get water from the water fountain after every set, it helps kill rest downtime with something constructive instead of just sitting/standing there (albeit marginal lol).
