What's up muthatruckas? Being up early on a Saturday sucks. But I woke up again to the sound of my dog about to puke so now I'm wide awake. Deciding if I should go hit a paused bench PR on an empty stomach right now or eat something tasty first.

Ok.. I have alot of videos on the external hard drive now, this means I can delete them from my computer and they won't get whipped from my external hard drive as well?
Sorry just a strong noob when it comes to computers...

it should be good, you also should have a back up of it somewhere though just in case that external dies. If you have a big cloud storage space in dropbox/box/google drive/etc. you could always upload it all there. Would take some serious time but if you just left it on over night for a week or so it would be good and safe. Plus you could share the links to the videos with people etc.
I have all my important stuff on dropbox: photos/videos/thesis etc. Big fan.

no worries brah, always up for helping -x-
Cache has to do with the stored memory associated with that process. Like when you surf a webpage that browser stores some memory as cache so you can access it later.
What mac do you have? Might be a huge file and the video card / cpu doesn't have enough available cache to edit or play that movie? I am just guessing here. You could also have quite a few programs open at once that could cause low available memory? Try a restart of the mac to see if this frees up some.
How big are the files you are trying to play/edit?
Also, here is some suggestions for imovie problems:
