Lost half a grand at the casino today (Poker brahs, need some advice)
was playing 1-2 NL
I flop top two pair, start betting strong from the beginning
but he got a straight on the turn
beat my top two pair heads up,
he went all in, and I had to call him.
Needless to say, I'm pissed, really pissed off.

Did you even look at the board to see the possible combinations? Honestly, 2 pair is decent, but not for all ins....especially if the board tells the story...

I almost never play two pairs. There are so many things that can happen for you to get beat. That and pre flop A-2 suited/off. They are tempting to play, but it always seems to work out better to just not play them

Pretty cold comment, man. Really messed up.
But you know what? I have a passion to get well versed in this game, and I don't recall the board to exact memory because I thought I had him.
anyway, good day to you

You just dont play aggressively with two pair IMO. Its a relatively strong hand, but there are still lots of beats out there.

I throw in like 20 dollars on the flop, he calls me w/ jack high, I think. He just got lucky on the turn, and managed to hit a straight.
then he started throwing lots of chips at me, but I thought he was bluffing cause my stack was shorter than his, he did it to me before.
top two pair, man. come on, for 1-2 NL, that should be an automatic win, but I know what I did was the wrong move.

You say you bet strong off the flop, well how much did you bet and what would his implied odds be if he called to make his str8. If you make the right bet and he makes a bad call(not getting the pot odds) and still wins, well there is nothing you can do about it, except keep playing the same way as you'll make money in the long run. Sometimes you also gotta just let a hand go too, if you think you've been sucked out on get out, it's probably the toughest thing to master in poker.

I don't know what cards you had or how people were playing at the table so its hard to really say. At 1-2 you are going to be getting a lot of people chasing straights and flushes even pre flop. I would have to see what the flop was to see what was out there, but probably raise flop to get rid of people chasing those straights/flush. When the guy goes all in on the turn I probably wouldn't try to call a bluff holding 2 pair when there is a chance that he has 3 of a kind, caught the straight/flush or has higher pair.

Not trying to be a jerk but it really is impossible to help you without knowing the board and the bets made. Top two pair is usually a good hand but there are certainly times when it must be folded.
Also the problem with 1-2 is you get a lot of low level players who won't fold in the right circumstances which makes sucking out a lot more common. Play actually becomes more predictable at a higher level.
