Hey gals everyone has to start somewhere so don't feel bad if you can't lift as much as someone who has been doing this for years. Nobody in this thread just woke up one day and decided hey I'm gonna bench 150lb or 185lbs, I'm sure it took a lot of hard work to lift that much and more.
Very nice.
Update for me is that I hurt my shoulder and can't even do a pushup from my knees, it's getting better but it's gonna be a while so I'm actually kind of jealous of all you gals that can lift the bar because I can't.

such an inspiring thread and not sure how it was resurrected, but glad it was.
I love bench but it's been a weak spot for the longest time....I hit 95lbs for 12 reps pretty consistently right now and seem to be stuck there. However last week I did 1 rep of 135lb, just cause I wanted to see if I could. (my boyfriend was with me in the gym and we haven't worked out together in about a year, so I gave it a try) It really hurt, killed me and I probably should have stopped. LOL but I got 1
on a side note, my 14 yr old daughter, he doesn't really lift but will try stuff here and there is pushing 55lbs consistently and she's so stoked cause she is the strongest girl (for bench) on her swim team. LOL I love that she is excited to be strong, and not skinny1 Corinthians 9:24
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

I weigh 135 and bench it. Great job on your numbers ladies! With determination and hard work anything is possible.
I normally do a lot of chest, starting with flat bench and do about 7 sets starting at 115 (2x12) 125 (2x12) 135 (1x4) then back down, 125 (1x12) 115 (1x15). I love chest day! Incline is a little more tricky tho =/

Oh hey, I tried bench pressing for the first time today (usually do plate-loaded incline chest press, as indicated in an earlier post ITT) and I could only use 50 lbs. for my 3x8 instead of my usual 65 lbs. on the chest press. Wow, and I thought the two movements were almost the same. After all, don't they work most of the same muscles?

I train bench...sometimes. My max bench is 125 as far as I know (but I haven't tested it in a while). It is not very impressive pitted against my squats or pulls. I train neutral grip DB bench to strengthen my triceps for stability in the overhead position when snatching. At least, that's what I tell myself. I mostly do it because I'm vain and I want big arms. I can neutral grip DB bench about 55lb per arm for 3x5.
