Nasser is for Dorian what Mentzer has been for Arnold: a counterargument because they remained with a bitter attitude and hate towards the IFBB = the underdog/black sheep/robbed guy in the mind of some fans. On the opposite side Vic has the mentality of a winner even after the 2007 Olympia, and despite the fact that he has endured more and worse events in his life than all the other guys combined, he still keeps moving on.
Except Arnold deserved to win while Nasser was robbed.

Many do, but personally I wouldn't agree. Just goes to show that you can never really go beyond the subjective point of view when discussing bodybuilding... I mean, I can understand why Arnold's win wasn't a given and why it's up for discussion, but I could never understand why people would say it was clearly rigged or w/e. To me, there was no clear winner that year

I think he was the best on stage, not in top shape, but Mentzer only 5th because he wasn't in the best terms with the higher powers was bull****.
It was bullsh*t that we was 5th, or the idea that the high powers placed him there was bullsh*t?

Side tris im not giving to Dorian sorry. His tris are so much smaller than Dillett or Nasser. Any muscle on Dorians arm is being destroyed.
Bodybuilding is not weight and repetitions; it’s resistance and absolute muscle failure. It’s not quantitative; it’s qualitative. It’s more mental than physical. It’s more control than rage. It’s the realization that you can always get bigger.

lol @ destroyed. his biceps are't showing from the front here.
you clearly aren't looking at the picture then because from the side, in that picture, he's actually showing more bicep than dillet and the biggest forearms up there imo. will from what i can see
Do you even English, brah? I very well know how Dorians arm is made up, and his arm thickness not displayed in this pic, doesnt stand up well to Dillett. His tricep muscle is atleast 30% smaller in volume than Dillett,s who had some of the best triceps ever, but this is not new to the knowledgeable few. Deal with it.

Dickerson won that show. All this banter over the 1997 Mr. O is senseless when you bring up the 1980 and 1981 Mr. O's. 1980 was a gift for Arnold to start up his acting career. 1981....well.....who knows. Franco looked awful and somehow won. Those two won those years and won basically because of how close they were with the powers that be. It is really obvious and pathetic. Let the flames start....whatever. It is what it is. I go against Arnold in two ways- the 1980 Mr. O and that he was not better that Sergio. I think he was good for the sport but never liked his cocky demeanor. Sergio, IMO handed Arnold his lunch when they went head to head.
So you disagree with those that say Arnold should not have won the 1980 Mr. Olympia?

Man Shawn Ray physique was amazing, dude had big arms small mid section nice v taper and his back is packed with slabs of muscle, the guys today can't even compare to this mans aesthetics.
The only reason I think the Olympia went to this mass freak show criteria, is because some super rich investors who got off on that stuff probably requested it or else they wouldn't give millions to help fund the contest and keep it alive?
I was a fan of body builder because of the golden age the Frank Zanes, Arnolds, guys like that, bodies that looked like they were carved from stone and still looked normal in clothes.
We can argue whether or not he was the very best on that stage, but it was by no means a steal if you ask me. Arnold held his own!
Sorry for thread hijack but this topic never gets old :P
I like this thread, talking about the controversies and all. As long as everyone is civil to each other about and presents their views in an informed way then it's a really good discussion. But how long the civility will last is the main thing.
In my opinion, Arnold won. Yes he was flawed, chiefly his legs, and yes he wasn't as massive as he had been. BUT, everyone else in that competition had their own flaws as well, and Arnold was still more massive than all of them. Arnold presented the best package at the 80 Olympia and hence he won.
Someone brought up 81, now THAT was a terrible decision.
I agree completely with Ray. If Lee Priest had said the same thing, you all would be saying how great he is to say that etc. Some people don't like him, but I have never had a problem with him and I have been following the sport longer than some of you have been out of diapers.

"...that's the great virtue of the free market, of the private market. It enables people...who hate one another...who don't speak the same language...who would fight one another if they had the chance, to cooperate economically. We were able to deal with China when China was a communist state. Even though we thought that that was a terrible arrangement, we could still cooperate. And that's what markets enable people to do. They bring freedom with them."
- Milton Friedman
Was it the truth? In Shawn's eyes (and the people who agree with his statements), yes. People will agree and disagree. The fact that it's a subjective sport and no one really knows what the judges thoughts and opinions are/were doing a show, throws a curve ball in something being 100% fact in my opinion.
