i'm more impressed by the actual weight of a lift more than the lift weight to body weight ratio

example 400lb guy clean and press 500lb more impressive than 200lb guy clean and press 300lbs

however, body weight does have some significance

also, body weight to lift weight ratio is not linear throughout the various weight classes
front squat: 175 lbs for 20 reps
standing strict press: 100 lbs for 19 reps
    2'' deficit deadlift: 250 lbs for 20 reps(bounced)

I think anyone lifting their bodyweight over their head is impressive regardless of their BW. Thats assuming it's a press and not a jerk.

overhead press at bw is probably the most 'impressive' out of the bw scale IMO. That said, like with most lifts lighter lifters tend to have an advantage and 150lb press at 150lb is considerable easier and less impressive than 200lb at 200lb, specially when the lifter isn't very lean.

As others have put it depends on the lifter, if he is very over weight then this is good if he is super lean then not so good

Bodyweight ratio isn't something I take into account when maxing my overhead. I typically refer to NAS standards/records in regards to my weightclass since anything else will be arbitrary.

    ^^this

body weight does not account for body fat percentage. this gives an advantage to lean lifters by putting them in the same weight class as someone with much less "functional" body mass

I havent tested 1RM in a while but Im on 3x5 @ 135lbs for work sets. Im guessing Ill have a 200lbs strict press in the first half of next year. Its an important lift for me, good for lock out on bench & also helps when I get elbow tendon pain.

if i can keep up with the progress that's been scheduled, i'll be at 1x5 @ 135lbs in february...which is good considering i've done nothing but fail with 145

Honestly, 5lbs is a big increase for begginers in the OHP. 1lbs plates would be awsome when you can hit 145 but cant budge 150. For a weeks I was able to hit 130 but not 135. The 5lbs was just too big of a jump.

    sadly, i'm not a beginner

but, i AM in serious need of beginner gains

2.5lbs are my smallest plates, 5 pound jumps will be fine since i'm giving the body a month to adapt to each new weight... 120x5 has been easy this week(due to using the same weight for the 3 weeks prior), so when i go up to 125 next week i'm expecting to get 5 with minimal grinding, then i'll have a month to adapt to 125

yeah, trying to add 5 pounds, with these <150 weights, after barely grinding out a single with the previous weight is too ambitious IME

standing strict press: 100 lbs for 19 reps

When I was a beginner, push presses with a 5lb increase always broke my plateau.

    thanks for the tips bros

will do push press when i'm in need of a plateau buster + have a higher ceiling

and possibly train outdoors because the ceiling isn't getting any higher

i would guess push press requires more core strength/balance compared to strict press being all about pressing power, am i right?

100 kg/225 lb strict press is a solid lift and a nice milestone.

The weight of the lifter only really matters when we get closer to maximum human potential. With a weight like this there are no excuses.

I was pretty happy when I hit a BW press of 245. That said, a BW press at any weight is pretty impressive in my opinion. For dudes trying to add pounds, I'd make sure your technique is 100% first.
