Short story.
My dad had a stoke on January 5th, 2012
I compete.
My sister owns a gym (studio)
My brother in law is a power lifter and crossfit instructor
It was not difficult to encourage him to clean up his diet and start lifting again.
About 5 months out he decided to do a show (mens physique) I asked him to work with my friend Tyler Mayer of Team TNT (http://www.teamtnt.info) who has a reputation for getting natty competitors in top shape.
At age 58, his body was pretty broken from years of abuse:
-Broken back in his 30's
-1 torn rotator cuff (left side - had surgery post show)
-1 torn labrum (repaired right side)
-Full knee replacement
-Shredded bicep (had surgery post show)
So because of these injuries we had to modify everything he did.
No bench at all. Cables only.
Very light weight on delts with limited exercises
No squats or leg press
No deads.
So mostly we had to do studio fitness type stuff just to avoid more injury.
I could not be more proud:

Thanks man
I am very proud of him.
for only 10 months of lifting he ended up looking great!
Now that he has had his shoulder and bicep surgery, he is ready to kill it, but till needs like 4 months to heal before he can lift properly.
He mostly wants to focus on his chest since his should prevented him from benching.
His legs need work too, but beyond that all his muscle groups should catch up pretty fast once he has a good year or two of solid training and nutrition behind him.
He used to lift when he was in his 20's. Our garage was actually turned in to a gym. He bought a ton of used equipment from a local gym that went out of business. In his youth, he was all natty and huge. At age 58, he is living a different reality.
He is focused and dedicated though.
His goal is to do another MP show in 18 months, then a BB masters once he turns 60.
I cannot wait to see his improvements over the next few years.
