Interesting departure in the traditional Westside hole pattern and sumo style. Those triagular brackets have a very "Edge" feel to them.

    There's still the bolted sumo

The hole pattern was a selling point of the infinity and Monster is supposed to be best of the best and doesn't have it. Perhaps they'll do some add ons to the safeties and J-hooks to provide the 1" spacing. Add a half inch pad or something. I remember Elite has 3" spacing and has 4 j-hooks and 4 safeties, one pair is offset to give you tighter spacing. Very weird solution.

Looks like a Meccano set where you cobble things together. Not a fan of all the bolts.

What are all the holes on the sides for?

Took me a few minutes to see it. Same uprights and bases with the stands and rack. Not a bad idea, buy 2 uprights and cross members and turn the S2 into the R3. They make more stuff with less parts. They must have gotten a good continuous improvement or Lean manufacturing guy when they bought Nebula. They are certainly streamlining their manufacturing process.

Good eye...these are really modular using the same posts / different bases for lots of things...

They also said they're making a Monster series Yoke. Now that one doesn't make as much sense on its own because the starting weight is 250+ probably, but Monster buyers will want matching attachments, so why not.

I wonder if they'll make Monster squat stands. That will be a first right?

Cant believe they didnt make it sumo style rack. sure louie simmons wont be happy w/ that.
It surprises me how many people refuse to buy equipment from Elitefts because its too expensive but they will buy equipment from their competitors, then continue to go on EFS website to educate themselves for FREE

Yeah they've always tried to do that sort of thing. Even the normal S2s for example use the same uprights as the R3/R4/R6/Infinity. Everything has always been as modular as possible which is why I've always leaned towards their stuff. If you buy an R3, you're only a parts kit away from an R6. Or if you buy an S2, you're a kit away from a Yoke. Whereas buying a rack from Elite or Legend or something, you are stuck with it if your needs change down the road.

I think the R3 from my first post was probably discovered by coincidence. Just something that's possible with the parts. I don't like the triangle plate thing though, I like the bracket on the S2 that bolts from 2 planes. They should've designed an attachment like that to bolt stuff together.

Also to the guys who mentioned the spacing, the reason there's no 1" hole spacing is because the racks use 1" bolts. Not even possible to do better than maybe 1.5". These racks are retarded overkill anyways, I would rather grab the stuff they've always sold. Maybe a bunch of people will start upgrading and I can find something for cheap, hehe...

Structurally, the rack doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Massive bolts and eight brackets to brace front to back movement but relatively little bracing for side to side movement.

They may be a product of the manufacturing process with the side benefit of adding and bolting crap to them later.

Plate storage is enough. They just manufacture the same upright for rigs, racks, everything. Simpler logistics. You can connect the current attachments from more sides. If they come up with new attachments there will be holes ready and waiting!

They should offer a kit to bolt it to the wall. 2 cross members that come off the rear uprights and lag into the wall. Throw a few pins on it for plate storage... might work no?

They have a single wall mount for their 2x3 series http://www.roguefitness.com/w4-garage-gym.php

But you can probably order the Monster version now, just a wall rig with 2 uprights and 2 wallmounts http://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-ri...wallmounts.php

I'm guessing that parts from their wall mount system could be used to do this.

I may still opt for the original R3 due to the closer hole spacing. Anyone know what the hole spacing is on the monster racks? (I looked around on Rogue's site, but did not see this information.)

I may still opt for the original R3 due to the closer hole spacing. Anyone know what the hole spacing is on the monster racks? (I looked around on Rogue's site, but did not see this information.)
I was kinda thinking along the lines of offering a set of the 24" cross members that are used inside the bolted rack and putting them on the back of the R3 and lagging them to the wall. Full rack lagged to the wall with holes for plate storage pins.

Ideally they would be about 16" and have a plate that allows you to bolt on centre with wall studs.

Gotta admit, that does look similar to Edge's yoke. But the move to 3"x3" uprights and 1" hole/bolt do make most of the new Rogue gears similar to the Sorinex offerings. Sorinex has been offering 3"x3" racks for a long time, but most of their smaller stands/rigs were still 2x2 or 2x3. Recently, Sorinex has come out with a ton of squat stands/yokes/racks... with 3"x3" uprights and holes on all 4 sides. Rogue appears to follow the same trend, adding more holes on the sides of their uprights, even though they don't get that extreme.

Sorinex XL Rack Series (new 3x3, 11 gauge racks and yoke):

Sorinex Base Camp Rack Series (XL's big brother 3x3, 7 and 11 gauge racks):

Don't know the price for that new Rogue rack, but it'll be hard to beat this Sorinex Dark Horse rack: http://store.sorinex.com/Dark-Horse-Rack-p/p01385.htm

I'm not really sold on the 3x3, but Rogue's Monster series has some nice features. Those features being laser cut numbers, and plastic lining for attachments. I own an R-4 and the paint is coming off wherever j-cups or attachments are placed. Not an overall big deal, but seems like paint coating advantages are negated if they just get rubbed off. I'd like to see the 2x3 series follow suit with the monster as far as protection for rack accessories, but the 2x3 series is already well established. Also would the base on the R-3 Monster posted above be movable side to side with no crossbar on the bottom?

Can't wait to see some prices. I don't think anybody realistically needs more than the good ole R3, but people just love going overboard.. and it is great if you can't bolt one down. They sure look beefy (and badass). I'm also very curious about side-to-side stability with only one top crossmember on that Monster R3. I know my my bolted down R3 is STOUT!

Save your money, by buying 2 3/4inch 4x8 pieces of plywood and bolt the R3 to that.

At Westside Barbell they use 2x2 R3 racks and the racks hold up to all the weight they throw on them. I can see if you want a R4 or R6 cuz they offer way more room inside to squat or DL in, but these monster racks are just overkill and are so uneccessary, just my .02
It surprises me how many people refuse to buy equipment from Elitefts because its too expensive but they will buy equipment from their competitors, then continue to go on EFS website to educate themselves for FREE

    I didn't see it either.

But I finally found the answer to my question about hole spacing on the monster racks / stands. It's two inches.
