I could be wrong but I believe the 1Q, captain black and mango are aromatics. the davidoff is an english blend, and the becks/daydream may be virginias. not at my comp right now so I couldn't tell you for sure. I find aromatics to have a much less harsh taste than english blends. in fact I barely taste them at all. my palate needs work but it's not that bad. virginias are somewhere in the middle.

tongue bite can happen with almost any blend regardless of its fullness. it occurs when you smoke too quickly and allow the pipe/tobacco to burn too hot. it can happen with cigars too, that's what the 1 or 2 puff/minute rule is about. I've only had tongue bite with my pipe once because I was in a hurry to finish the bowl as something had come up. shouldn't have smoked it that fast because with pipes you can put them down, let them go out and come back to it later. very convenient

sure. keep in mind that I'm still a beginner, I've only been at it for 3 weeks or so. the experience in the beginning was tedious and irritating. it's common practice to relight a pipe up to 10 times for a single bowl, much less when you learn how to properly use a pipe tool instead of having to relight. right now I probably average 3 lights per bowl, including the first "false light" and the second "true light" (will go into details if you're interested). now that I don't find myself relighting as often, it's easier to enjoy. I like the feel of the pipe in my hand and by holding it I can judge whether or not I'm smoking too quickly by the temperature of the bowl. compared with a cigar I would say it's more work, you have to do a little more babysitting and keep an eye on your quality of smoke (that is, if the smoke is very thin and weak you need to tamp it with your pipe tool to push the cherry lower into the bowl and keep the tobacco lit), but you are able to puff it more often than a cigar without ruining the whole bowl and getting tongue bite.
as for taste, cigars are much much more complex. I haven't yet found a pipe blend that changes tastes the way a cigar will. I'm still working on my palate to pick out the subtle tastes that I'm told exist, so perhaps they aren't too different but as of right now I would definitely pick a good cigar over a pipe if I could afford to. that's one of the bonuses of pipes, you can make a $100 investment for a good pipe that will last you 40 years if cared for properly, $5 for a 2oz blend of whatever you like and smoke it for weeks. extremely cheap compared to cigar smoking
overall I've been enjoying the pipe experience because I'm a weird kunt and like things that are very smokey. my garage gets nice and smokey after a 30 minute bowl and the smells linger for days. I would compare the smell of a pipe after a bowl has been smoked to the taste of a really really good cigar. walking into a room in which a pipe has been smoked an hour prior is a sensory euphoria*** Misc Cigar Crew ***

So my wineador is just about ready for use, just a few more days with activated charcoal should do the trick.
Now I have to work on filling her up... so I bought some more poverty smokes. My most recent shipment:
10x - 5 Vegas Triple-A Tor****
21x - Camacho Corojo 10th Anniversary Tor****
20x - La Libertad Robusto

yeah wine coolers always have a strong plastic smell starting out. So I washed it down with distilled white vinegar, then distilled water (both these worked very well), then activated charcoal for the final touch.
I cant wait, this thing is pretty neat. brb perfect temp/humidity 24/7 365.

Sounds like a LOT of work in the beginning figuring out what you're doing. I've got a complete nostalgia related to the smell of a cigar being smoked, throughout my childhood i spent a lot of time around a heavy cigar smoker. I may have to grab myself a corncob and take a swing at it when I get a proper place to smoke. I just moved apartments and lost my balcony/deck so i've been smoking my cigars in public a lot more. I'm not really sure I'm peppered to whip out a pipe at Arizona State University, i'll be the official biggest douche on campus.

haha ya I don't see myself smoking a pipe on campus because it does seem really douchey. it's a little bit of work but the learning experience is fun and even though it can be frustrating, you still end up with a nice flavor and smell after a bowl that you had to relight 100 times. in that sense it's 'safer' than cigar smoking because it's fairly difficult to wreck the experience whereas with cigars you need ideal weather conditions if you smoke outdoors, know when to ash, don't smoke too fast but still manage to keep it lit, etc. it's a little more of a challenge than cruising to the bottom of a bowl

I got my shipment from Mike's Cigars today. I'm amazed since it left Florida on Monday and it was here today.
The Carrillo on the right was gifted to me by someone. I have yet to try it and the Partagas, I bought yesterday at the store, thinking it would take a couple of days for the shipment to arrive.
1 J. Fuego Sangre De Toro
1 La Gloria Cubana Serie R Black No.58
1 Hoyo De Monterrey Reposado Sueno
1 Davidoff #3
I severely underestimated the size of the Gloria Cubana and I feel kind of jipped with the Davidoff. I should have read better and saw that it was a cigarillo. So many choices to choose from as to which to smoke today.
Edit: stupid site making my pic upside down. The Carrillo is now on the left then.
Edit to edit: ok pic has been fixed disregard last edit.Last edited by blue_kirby; 08-21-2013 at 02:23 PM.

another order arrived today, totaling 7 blends for me now. Mango was delicious, about to go try the habana daydream. apparently it's made of cigar leaves and should taste similar to a NC sundried cigar. will report back with results
starting to accumulate so much shi't that I designated a shelf for it all. looking into getting a glass faced cabinet

Going to do that...They were pretty hard from the B&M, maybe in a month.
Got some 5 Vegas Classics out instead and smoked them with my dad (who also smoked a 5 Vegas Gold). Glad I took up this hobby. The conversations you can have with someone you look up to while smoking some sticks are great. As Davidoff would say, "Time filled beautifully."
Still getting used to the torch lighter so the burn was **** at first...
But it evened out.
Dinner! Honey Glazed Tilapia and some pasta stuff
