not if your going out and wearing tight jeans or something like that
my suggestion would be to do judo, so you can throw people (most legal self defense technique, plus it hurts like a bitch) and then take boxing lessons for learning punches
muay thai and other such arts are more of a way of life<3 TRANCE FOREVER <3

wtf is up with people talking as if they know what they're talking about?
As if jeans are gonna stop me from kicking someone really hard in the thighs? How stupid can you be? Seriously?
Ok, who here has actually been in a fight? Why are people talking as if they know when they don't? My jimmies are rustled!

Muay Thai could be pretty useful imo. Boxing is great too, but I think they teach you how to throw some deadly elbows and knees. Once a person is rushing you for a take down, a good elbow/knee is easily good night for them. My brother has used elbows/knees in a street fight (efficiently), and it's almost overkill, lol. I think a person should learn boxing, muay thai, and Judo personally.

Quite a few martial arts would be useful against your average joe on the street.
Muay Thai or Boxing for striking - generally the first hit or so would end the fight. And these two fighting styles leave you nimble enough for multiple opponents if you have no other choice, run when you can, especially if you dont know if the other guy has a weapon or not.
Brazilian JiuJitsu -Great for 1 on 1 fights, Easily put someone to sleep without leaving a mark, only problem is many of the setups may be hard to pull off in the moment, maybe add BJJ along with a striking style like Muay Thai or boxing.
Wing Chun - Wing chun will train your arms and blocks like no other, chi sao and chain punching are both golden, however i would not reccomend this over Muay Thai for fighting your average joe on the street, but i would add it to an existing routine if you wanna get that extra edge.
Krav Maga - Very basic combat system, good for people who dont want to get too involve and want to learn fast, however it has its limits when fighting trained people, but for fighting the average person it will work.

if you're taking muay thai and think it's a good idea to pull off a headkick in a street fight you probably aren't that great at muay thai anyways. i was ****ing around with muay thai for a while and getting kicked in the thigh once from someone who is trained properly is enough to make sure you're not going anywhere for a while. not to mention, muay thai isn't mainly about kicks. it incorporates knees, elbows, punches. all of those things you can do with a pair of jeans on and aren't going to open yourself up to getting knocked out

the fuk? brb kicks are amazing in a street fight. judges the other guys defense and ability and phases him with zero damage to you. In a street fight my chin is the farthest thing from a guy. (mainly outve the fear of a good punch)
also while boxings badass and i respect it, most wrestlers for example would wreck a boxer in 7 seconds flat.Habit is powerfull and custom can Kill.
Niceness FTW.
