Try eating more caloric dense foods, or foods that you enjoy so much that you could eat endlessly.

You weigh 235 pounds dude? If you are above 20%bf, you should probably cut. If you are 15% or lower your probably approaching your natty limit.

Trying to put on weight when you're 235 pounds is always going to be an uphill battle man.

You've probably accelerated your metabolism to an absurd degree.

I experienced the exact opposite as you.

When I was cutting and I dropped my calories to 1,200/day, my metabolism slowed down to an absurd degree, and I could no longer lose weight.

Drop your calories to a more manageable 4,000 and you should paradoxically start putting on more weight than at 5,000.

Sounds like your job might burn a good amount of calories on its own. That + working out and you might not be at a significant enough surplus.

Either that or you are overestimating calories.

I experienced it firsthand. I literally stopped losing weight at 1,200 calories which is about 2,000 calories under maintenance for me, after you factor in the ridiculous amount of cardio I was doing.

If you go WAY UNDER or WAY OVER maintenance then you may very well phuck up your metabolism and stop gaining/losing weight (whichever one is your goal).

That's possible. I can't speak to a major caloric surplus. All I can say is that a major caloric deficit literally caused my bodyfat and overall body weight to stall for 2 weeks, when according to 3,500 calories burned = 1 lb. loss theory, I should have lost 8 pounds (my maintenance was about 3,200 calories after all the cardio I was doing).

    What's your fat percentage?

If you're above 15% try cutting for a while, you'll find it way more easy. And once you're down to 10-12% it will be easier to bulk than it is now.

I'm aware of upregulating your metabolism when you crash it by eating like an idiot and certain metabolisms are more adaptive to caloric surpluses than others, but the only way to overcome that is to eat more. You can't just assume that since something works one way that it will work in the reverse. Please, do your research before giving advice to others.

I second this, happended to me too, lose more weight at 15% deficit then 50% deficit. Weird but it happened.

Less meals but bigger portions. That should help slow down your metabolism.

No, your metabolism isn't based on the amount of meals you eat. God, the nutrition section really has gone to crap.

I would take a look at your macros. It sounds like you are maxed out on calories, so maybe try playing with amount of protein and fat grams you are getting with in those calories.
