You can eat clean and gain lean muscle mass. You will be able to see what you need to work on along the way without the fat & water hiding what your really look like. I would recommend this for someone just trying to look good/ stay in shape year round.
The bulk/ cut idea I would recommend for a bodybuilder that knows how his body works. I've had a ton of beginners tell me how they tried to gain bad weight just to be disappointed in the results. They end up starting back at square one.

Very informative thanks , but both would require a caloric surplus, gaining lean mass requires that too

Just my thoughts though. I don't know what your goals are so you can do whatever suits you.
Thank you for you reply, and I tend to agree with you to a certain extent. I'm about 5lbs away from reaching my goal of 200 and tho my abs and cut aren't as defined as they once were I'm deff not fat not in the slightest form. I may call myself fat or tubs of fun but truth is I could not be happier with where my body fat is in relation to the weight gain. I don't plan on doing a extreme cut more like a maintaining leaning out type cut. My diet has been as clean as ever for the past 4 months. I have had pretty good success with dropping body fat while maintaining my current weight or within a few pounds of it. But what works for some, won't work for others.

i do a cheat meal on sunday, usually a couple slices of pizza.
My normal diet is:
Breakfast= 4 eggs (2 whole 2 white),3 turkey sausage links, 2 whole wheat toast and 16oz of whole mile
Mid Snack= 19 oz of whole milk, 2 scoops of protein, 1 cup of oats, 2 tablespoons of natural peanut butter.
Lunch= 8oz of some type of lean meat with 2 oz of whole grain pasta
After workout same as Mid Snack
Dinner same as Lunch.
that usually puts me around 3500-4000 cals. I do drink milk with all meals too.
