This thread is dedicated to all products available in Australia.
The consensus was to start a new thread to discuss all products made and available in Australia and also aware others on new or uncommon products.
So feel free to posts reviews, opinions, ask questions, let us know items that you find and where you found it as well as the nutritional info etc.
If you'd like to refer back to the previous thread, it can be found here: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...hp?t=130999643
Please be aware that products have been discussed tirelessly over time and below is a brief recap against different food categories. This post can be edited at any time so if you believe I’ve missed a commonly discussed item, please let me know and I will add it.
Ice Cream
Australia has many great ice creams and has recently started importing various flavours of ice creams from other countries such as Ben & Jerry’s.
Ben & Jerry’s – This product has been discussed in detail many times and all previous information can be found in the link above. This ice cream is very expensive (roughly $12 for 500ml) due to supply from overseas and the demand/exclusivity. The ice cream is highly rated by most individuals however it’s nothing special and in the opinion of most regulars, there are cheaper ice creams available in Australia that are just as good, if not better.
The most popular flavours appear to be Clusterfluff, Maple Tree Hugger and Half Baked. If you wish to purchase this product, they are available in Woolworths and BP's etc around VIC/QLD/NSW/WA, however please don't complain about the price after purchasing it.
Peter's Light & Creamy - This product is readily available in all grocery stores and is roughly $5 for 1.8L when on special. It has numerous flavours that get extremely high ratings such as Honeycomb and Creme Brulee and is also 97% fat free and easily fit into a diet. You can also add in your own mix-in's if required.
Connoisseur - This is a premium ice cream that is loved by all and has just released a select line of Australian varieties that include two amazing flavours; blueberry crumble and hazlenut salted caramel. These have been discussed over and over and are amazing.
There are other super premium brands available such as Kohu Road and Serendipity but these are available at IGA's and not major supermarket chains.
Cheese
Fat free cream cheese – Many posts on these forums talk about this product however it is not available in Australia. The closest we have in Australia is extra light (5%) which is almost identical in macros. Please do not ask if we have this in Australia, because we DON’T.
Eggs
Australia stocks egg whites in cartons available at Coles and Woolworths, both in the chilled section and in the frozen section in 1L cartons. In the majority of cases it is actually cheaper to buy a carton of eggs and crack the egg whites yourself, plus you get the benefit of the yolk if you wish. Buying egg whites is solely for convenience in most cases.
Peanut Butter
Australia has many varieties of peanut butter and the most popular appear to be the Macro brand natural peanut butter available at Woolworths and our generic Kraft varieties. A hugely popular brand in the US is Peanut Butter & Co which makes various flavoured varieties such as White Chocolate Wonderful, Dark Chocolate Dreams, Mighty Maple etc and these are not available at grocery stores in Australia, only at US import stores such as USA Foods.
Another popular trend of late is PB2 or peanut flour which is defatted peanut butter but with a similar taste (for less calories). It isn’t available in grocery stores however you can purchase it from various supplement stores online or eBay and the like.
Kangaroo
Woolworths, Coles and other grocery stores stock Kangaroo from Macro Meats that is very well loved by regulars in this thread. Varieties include mince, burgers, steaks and sausages. The nutritional information on these products is amazing as well as the taste and price, however recently the company has changed the ingredients in these products causing them to fall apart during cooking and lose the love of regulars.
Purchasing meat
If you are looking at purchasing meat in Australia, it is generally cheaper to find a local butcher or a company such as Lenard’s who have chicken and rump steak cheap regularly.
Yoghurt
Yoghurt has been discussed many times and the consensus is that the best tasting and nutritional wise yoghurt is Chobani 0% or 2% fat tubs (908g) available at Woolworths and some IGAs.
There are other popular varieties of yoghurts such as Nestle Soleil which is low calorie for quantity as well as coming in different flavours such as vanilla, passionfruit etc.
Poptarts
Poptarts appear to be a very popular product on these forums for those in the US however does not seem to get much love in Australia due to the calorie content per poptart, as well as the availability and price. If you are interested in purchasing these, various IGAs as well as US import stores stock various flavours however you are looking at roughly $10 for a pack of 8.
A similar item is available at Woolworths called Tasty Pastries, or at the Reject Shop called Toast’ems if you are after something similar.
These are best eaten frozen from the freezer.
Sugar Free Syrup
There are a variety of sugar free products available in Australia such as the popular Walden Farms product from the US (regularly discussed on these forums).
If you are after a sugar free maple syrup, the consensus is that the best one available is Queen’s sugar free maple syrup, available from both Coles and Woolworths.
Vitarium
This is a very popular sugar free (still has calories) powder for a mixed drink. It comes in many flavours such as coffee, strawberry, chocolate and banana. It is great to mix in oats to give a chocolate flavour. It is available at Woolworths and most Coles.
Fibre
Beware if counting carbs from nutritional packets in Australia. Australia is different to the US and the fibre is counted by itself. If you are just counting the calories on the nutritional panel, that is fine.
I will update this post further as items are suggested.
Jason
*MOD EDIT*
PLEASE NOTE - ANYONE WHO IS SEEN TO POST LINKS TO / MAKE SIGNIFICANT REFERENCE TO SUPPLEMENT STORES IN AUSTRALIA THAT MAY BEEN SEEN AS COMPETITION AGAINST BB.COM WILL HAVE THEIR POST DELETED AND WILL RECEIVE A NEG / INFRACTION.
Thanks, Emma.

Yeah I can't quite understand the whole 'lost the love' because they fall apart thing mentioned in the OP. I barely noticed a difference until somebody mentioned it in the previous thread, mine still hold together similar to before. Cooking technique or something must be different? I find it amusing that its a dealbreaker for some, not a massive deal.

At Woolies they've started selling packets of microwave popcorn by Poppin as raw so without any oil and butter so you can add your own seasonings (paprica gets my vote). Although nothing new in theory, it's nice to have it already in a packet so you dont need to ration out the larger packets of Riviana kernels.

In on this, by the way I believe companies don't NEED to count fiber into the total carbohydrates so you'll have some companies who do it and some who don't, so you are better off adding fiber on top of total carbohydrates for everything or just not worrying about it and just counting the total carbohydrates alone which is what I do.
