What I've learned from Bodybuilding.com
- Sodium is bad
- Sugar is bad
- Pizza can only be made one way.. BAD
- Fast food is always bad and full of bad
- Supplements make you bigger than food
- Moderation is NOT an option
- Always eat "clean" and not "dirty"
- Green Peppers are always a better choice than Coke, even if you are athletic and hit your macros/micros for the day.
- Never use common sense, always listen to the guy who eats 10 cans of tuna a day, because he's ripped!
- Count your calories and what you intake but NEVER use IIFYM... it's stupid
- And finally... ERMEHGERD, PERP TERTS!Learning something new here every single day... and I'm still not sure if I understand : /

I would be happy to go back to calling it flexible dieting or even discretionary calories both very old concepts in bodybuilding nutrition. Again the problem with IIFYM as an acronym is that it is too simplistic and thus is an IQ test and requires people to think too hard which means it will breed ignorance and draw extremists. Flexible dieting is less confusing and was a good term on Lyle's part.

Agreed, it's been around forever, it's not a new concept. Bodybuilder's have been using different options for food since I can remember. I am going to show my age here but just to prove a point, back in the late 80's I went to a seminar with Vince Taylor (IFBB Pro) and through the whole seminar he drank a 2 liter, regular, fully leaded, Pepsi. When asked about it in the seminar he said he drank it all the time even during competition dieting. Not all bodybuilders only eat brown rice brahs.
To me the acronym is silly and I won't use it.Free Agent

the OP is a good summation, but I honestly thought this was a generally understood concept for the most part, at least in this forum. When I logged in and saw a 5 star thread on first page with this title I thought it was a bump from 2010 or something. Josef, wasn't there a thread though a while back where you were against IIFYM and there was a lot of debate, or am I remembering incorrectly?

I bought ground beef in a bag.
I also bought lean chicken breast in a bag.
Can you tell which from looking at the bags??
Doubt it.
There's obviously more to it than the simple breakdown you've given.
Did he also explain his cycling? The insulin or GH he was using? Chances are, he skipped over that part.
That's why I've never understood why people look towards Pros for dieting/supplement tips.Last edited by Juggertha; 11-21-2012 at 06:05 PM.

You don't understand my point at all; this logic you have tried to compare it to, isn't the same logic that I used.
By using my example, just answer whether you can tell the difference between which food is which? Then we can discuss anything else. Can you tell the difference between those 2 meals from the information I gave you on the cal and macro breakdown?Last edited by layarph; 11-22-2012 at 01:17 AM.
"Never attempt to train yourself into a caloric deficit. Don't spend hours on the treadmill. Diet comes first, cardio second. The dumbest fat loss strategy ever devised is used by people that wake up early in the morning before going to work to do cardio and follow that up with "recovery shake." Congratulations, you just wasted two hours of your life." Martin Berkhan

He was pretty honest about "supplements", it was long time ago and I don't remember exactly what he said.
As far as the pros, never mind the "supplements", you are talking about the genetic elite so you are correct that a lot of what they do does not apply to the average person however you can learn some common things that they do that you can apply and adjust to your own goals.Free Agent

If it fits your macros is HUGE misunderstanding. Nutrious food is always better.
