Fancied something different. I really liked Jeni's grapefruit froyo so gave the apricot a shot. It has the obvious tartness you'd expect from froyo, but it is backed by a natural fruit sweetness and flavor that smooths it out.

Agreed. I consider it one of their sleeper flavors, much like Peanut Brittle. The only difference is that Peanut Brittle sounds kind of intriguing on the package description (at least to me) while Milk and Cookies sounds boring and bland. The reality is another story entirely. Love it. It's another one of those flavors I fear they will can whenever they make the next round of cuts, because it doesn't get much hype.

I don't watch 30 rock, so I'm really not sure what to expect. All I want is for it not to be fruit flavored, and to utilize a unique base (e.g. brown sugar, maple, or something else that isn't currently in the lineup). If we get a vanilla based ice cream with some odd mix-ins, I will be disappointed. More so even if they use their sweet cream base, which I've always contended is their weakest.
Anyways, after my A.M. eviction notice and P.M. forum disputes, yesterday was rough. Luckily, ice cream heals all wounds.
Haagen Dazs' Pralines and Cream:
Before talking about this ice cream, I have to confess that I seldom eat flavors with nuts. I've never had butter pecan in my life, for instance, despite it being their top seller (or close to it, I believe). They just don't excite me, and I had this idea in my head that any flavors featuring them would fall flat and be boring. As is commonly the case, I was mistaken.
Upon opening the lid I was immediately greeted with the creamy base and a rather large pool of caramel. The base itself is your standard Haagen Dazs vanilla, which is one of the best of its kind. There's not much to say apart from the fact that it's your typical velvety goodness that you expect from the brand. The caramel swirl on the other hand was less predictable. The deep, golden pools of caramel were incredibly sweet, even by my own standards. What took me aback the most was that the caramel had the slightest boozy taste to it, as if rum had been used in the process. It's been a while since I've scooped their Caramel Cone, Salted Caramel Truffle or Dulce de Leche, but I don't think the caramel swirl in those pints was the same. I could be mistaken though. In any event, it was a welcome change of pace, and complimented the base perfectly
But the real winner of the pint, to my astonishment, was the pecan pieces. I always thought that the nuts used in these flavors were the standard, un-coated variety. Nope. Instead, these bits of heaven were coated with a buttery, waxy shell of what I believe was cinnamon-sugar. Needless to say, the flavor of the coating was unreal, and the nuts themselves were so fresh and brittle that they almost dissolved in my mouth.
All in all, I think this is one of my favorite flavors of HD's, and probably the most pleasant surprise that I've picked up in many moons. A reminder that we should never give into our presuppositions.
My Score: 8.0/10

Chillaxbroseph, very nice review of Haagen Dazs' Pralines and Cream. HD will always be a fav. brand of mine.
I love nuts (especially pecans) in my ice cream, especially when incorporated well with a good base and flavor pairs such as HD's perfect vanilla base and caramel. That cinnamon sugar coating on the pecans is enticing. I'm eager to try the "booze-y" taste of the Bourbon flavor in the ice cream as well. Whenever I have rum-flavor infused ice creams, the rum taste is often overpowering or not even noticeable. This one sounds good!Last edited by anuragp122195; 01-29-2013 at 01:57 PM.

Yoplait low fat frozen strawberry yogurt
Honestly holds its own with any strawberry ice cream ive ever had. Amazing macros (whole pint =8g fat/80g carb/12g pro), short ingredient list, surprisingly good texture, and great taste. Decent amount of strawberries mixed in as well. To me it gets a solid B+. this yoplait line is definitely my go to. trying the greek strawberry tmw so we will see how it compares.

If I had known you would have wanted it for your blog, it would have been much lengthier, and I would have cleaned up my prose considerably. This was just a snapshot review, really.
But, since you asked:
You have to hand it to Haagen Dazs on the cover art. They make it look almost pornographic.
And a description for those curious:

Where did you acquire this? Not much of a HD guy in general, but I'm pretty interested in this and the new Peanut Butter Pie in spite of all that. Just trying to figure out if either are friggin' Walmart exclusives...
Now that you mention it, perhaps it's a spin on Lemon Meringue pie..."Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself, but talent instantly recognizes genius."
