Glad to see the familiar faces. This is a great idea in theory but hard to conceptualize and more importantly maintain in the long run. And that is why this is not the B&J 4.0 thread, because it has been expanded to all ice creams as the last one had evolved too.

Pumpkin goodness. Pumpkin spice ice cream, toasted pumpkin bagel, and pumpkin flax granola. The bagel made it INCREDIBLE. Becomes super delicious and chewy in the ice cream.

    Gah, missed the first page.

    Oh well, in anyways.

Since our thread is now "ice cream eating now", I feel we should immediately institute a policy of no Breyers pics/reviews.

    Private Selection Banana Cream Pie

After the demise of the BnJ offering, I decided to see how Private Selection's seasonal offering measured up. I'm a big fan of banana, but oddly enough banana flavored ice cream is not terribly popular. Probably because good banana ice cream is a bit rare.

    The package.

Note how Kroger is giving us a "banana sauce" in lieu of the pastry swirl that we got from Ben and Jerry's. This is actually really good, and you can genuinely taste the bananas. Even so, I think I prefer the sweet pastry swirl from BnJ version. I found it to be reminiscent of frosting, which in turn made the pint taste a little like a frozen version of the banana cake my mother made me as a kid. Don't be turned off by that though, because this is still very good. The base is rich and creamy, with real banana flavor. It really does feel like I'm eating frozen pie filling. There are some pie crust pieces in here as well. They've got a pretty good size to them and the container is packed with them. They offer a nice, buttery contrast to the sweetness of the banana, as well as a textural variation. Like I said, it's close, but the edge goes to BnJ's on this one. Given that theirs is now retired though, and that Private Selection's is a semi-regular (re: seasonal) offering, it's a fantastic choice that I'd recommend in a heartbeat. As a plus, the macros are a wee bit better than the pint from Vermont.

    In bowl.

    Bonus: Greyston Bakery Brownies

These are the guys who bake the brownies that go into all the Ben and Jerry's pints. Up until this shipment my packages have contained Chocolate Fudge, Chocolate Walnut, Brown Sugar Blondie, and Chocolate Expresso. This time the expresso flavor had been replaced with a mint variety. I'm not a mint guy, so no impressions on those.

Chocolate Fudge: Solid brownie. These are the guys in Chocolate Fudge Brownie (obviously) and they hold up very well out of the ice cream. Chewy, fudgy, dense, and the chocolate flavor is nice and strong. They're awesome warmed up with some ice cream on top.

Chocolate Walnut: Pretty much the same as above, but it has walnuts. For me, that makes it instantly better. I think the crunch is a nice addition to the texture.

Chocolate Expresso: I am not really a coffee guy, so that would normally be a mark against these. That said, the coffee flavor isn't too powerful, to be honest. It ends up blending with the brownie to create a kind of dark chocolate flavor.

Brown Sugar Blondie: The same as in the former Maple Blondie. Maybe you liked the pint and maybe you did not, but these guys are awesome. Less dense than the chocolate varieties, but nice and soft. They are also loaded with large chocolate chips. The best way I can think of to describe these warmed up is kind of a cross between freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and yellow cake. Nice.

EDIT: I get these as part of a contest I won, but I believe the bakery has online ordering for all of the above if anyone else feels like trying them out.

I just had Publix Premium limited release Apple Pie last night.
    HOOOOOLLLLLYY crap.
Was very very very good. The pie pieces are big and plentiful. ALong with a wonderful cinnamon swirl dealie and some great apple flavor.
    Immediately cracked my top 10.
    Must get.

Up until my last bulk I only tried flavors that sounded interesting. I decided it to would be a fun little task to try out every flavor available in my area. For the most part I didn't discover anything amazing but there were some surprises (Peach Cobbler, Banana Split, Karamel Sutra, Dublin Mudslide) that I wouldn't have tried otherwise.

I agree. I haven't had the Mars, so I can't comment on that, but the Twix, although not bad, doesn't measure up to the Snickers. I feel like the Snickers does a nice job of replicating the candy bar in an ice cream form, but the Twix always seems a bit off to me because they have those little cookie "balls" instead of a straight cookie layer like the normal candy bar has. Just my take.
