If I intend to go for a max deadlift in a session, how do you recommend I build/warm up to it?
I guess what I'm looking for is an idea of the number of sets/reps at a particular %'s of my max in order to give myself to the best chance of getting my max without either fatiguing myself beforehand or not being sufficiently ready for a max lift.
Thanks.

Interesting thread. When I went for my max last week I warmed up at a very easy weight then picked a weight i knew I could lift very easily and then worked up in 10 or 5kg increments and found going in increments helped keep me going but then maybe started at too low a weight:
60
70
75
80
85
90
95
100
105 (PR)
110 (PR)
115 (FAIL)
Next time I think I'll warm up low still then add a couple at 60 (safe weight), then start higher i.e 75; poss 80.

1x100kg (50%)
1x140kg (70%)
1x180kg (90%)
1x200kg (100%)

i tend to go plate plate plate plate plate plate no more than triples on anything for a max in the gym.
for a max at a meet I rarely go above 4 plates b/c by the time i get to the deadlift i'm trying not to die.*Mods/CS will not, nor can they change your username, so don't ask*

60kg for like 8
100kg x 3
140 x 3
180 x 1
200 x 1
220 x 1
Something like that is how i do it.I don't know who you are. I don't know what you're doing in the squat rack. If you are looking for advice, I can tell you I don't do curls. But what I do have are a very particular set of lifts; lifts I have acquired from Mark Rippetoe. Lifts that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you put down the barbell, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will squat you.
