where i'm at, like 50% of the specops guys failed it.
It's a hard test and the Mentor here in Sactown Cali said it didnt really matter. you could get a waiver for it and the NSW community would understand due to the high volume of failures. That's just rumor though, i wouldnt take my word on it.
Also, for those who are looking to do Spec War, Spec Ops or whatever your branch.military calls it... i'd probably suggest not talking to the recruiter about that stuff because the Spec War chain of command works faster than the Recruiting chain of command.

Just don't effin quit, ever. 2 days into my 10 day patrol phase, I fractured my 3rd metatarsal... broke my foot, and still had to carry a 100+ lbs ruck, with probably 20-30 lbs of combat equipment on an LBV. I could have quit and rolled to another class, but I said screw that and just did the dam thing. I only weighed about 140 pounds at this point. If my weak scrawny ass can do it, anyone with the mental strength can do it. It's going to be hard, much much harder than boot camp and infantry training, but if you just put your head down, grit your teeth and push through whatever they tell you to do, you'll make it. It's too late to train for it, but he needs to learn to swim, he'll start learning his 1st day in MART (Marines Awaiting Reconnaissance Training), a platoon he'll train in while he waits to get a seat in a Recon class. He's going to have to learn the technique to ruckrun, basically just shuffle your feet faster than a walk, walk the uphills, run the downhills. He'll have to learn how to "fin" for amphibious phase. He'll have a certain amount of time (forget if it's 60 or 90 minutes) to fin 2000 yards, which is 1 nautical mile, while pushing a 40 pound ruck that hopefully waterproofed and floating. Pay attention during comm classes in the first phase of training, comm is one of the harder portions of the training. No one ever wants to learn or use the radios, lol. It was my bread and butter, which is why I carried the radio for my team.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head, hit me up if he needs to know more or has any specific questions.

CSS is a great stroke. I learned how to do it before I joined. He won't be allowed to use it on his timed 500's, but I believe he can use it during his 2k fins. He can only do Breast or plain sidestroke, or at least that's how it was when I was there in '09. He's going to have to swim in cammies too. Oh!! very important, 25 meter underwater crossover. Lot's of people quit because they can't do one and they're afraid to blackout... They're not going to let you die, so just do what you gotta do!

Yes 25 is easy, some people just have a mental block about being under water more than like 2 seconds. You can't be in an "amphibious" job without having a high level of comfort in the water.
