We were talking, and for the most part my roommates are relieved that the election is over so now social media can "go back to normal" aka people will stop posting/tweeting/sharing politics-related news and opinions. One of my roommates said that her "greatest pet peeve" was when people tweet or post about politics on Twitter and ******** (at any time, not just election season).
What do you think?
I'm someone who does occasionally (or as anyone who's my friend might say, "often") post/tweet about socio-political issues I'm concerned about. But I feel like one of the benefits of social media is choice. What shows up on your feed is up to you. You can follow who you want, unfollow who you want; friend who you want and unfriend who you want. ******** is one better in that you can hide friends' posts without actually de-friending them.
So... politics on social media... yay, or nay?

I say yay, because at the end of the day, politics dictates our whole life. That's not to say everything we post should be bashing other peoples opinions or consistently spouting our own opinions without looking at any other side of the argument. Too many people don't know anything about politics, so if they don't want to hear it then they can unsubscribe from your page and put their head in the sand.

I would say it is unavoidable... as people just express what is on their mind current on social media outlets so the two largest issues of debate that end friendships and relationships, politics and religion, are a never-ending stream on ********. Half my family are far right Christians so every time I check ******** its "The American solider died for your freedoms and Jesus died for your sins." When I really want to piss them off I reply with "American soldiers are dying for corporate interests right now but I don't see jack **** being done by the military to protect anyone's freedoms that know." or "I think there is a strong chance Jesus is just a fictional character while we are on the topic of giving our opinions to friends and family." I find that it gives me a great outlet to troll my family who generally will not delete me due to them being family. LoL

It only pisses me off when I disagree with it. I try to keep my social media stuff relatively politics-free. I'll occasionally post about a cause I care about, but that's about it. Most of my friends are the same way so I actually rarely see it in my social space unless I seek it out.

I say yay, because if social media is going to get our generation out the polls, I'm all for it. This years election had double the votes this year.
However, I did delete a few people for racial slurs against the president. If people want to argue policy, sure, but I don't want to wake up to "Oh, black ass is back in office" and people throwing around the N bomb like it's nothing."Be careful about reading health books. I say yay.. As long as it's kept civil I have no problem with it. I want to hear different opinions by people who are my friends, but may have a different world view from my own.. I think it would be boring to have everyone I know views mirror my own..That would take the fun out of life and friendly debate..

I like to weed out all the idiots, especially the ones I don't agree with. I also like to read up on peoples opinions, and learn there reasonings for having said opinions.

I have people who post political and religious stuff and it shows in my news feed. I've never unfriended someone or put them on an ignore list. It's always pretty civil though occasionally heated. Most of the heated arguments have had to do with science (i.e. vaccinations), lol. There are a few libertarians/Ron Paul supporters that I argue with once in a while when they try to mix their politics with their belief in freedom and religion. I usually gloss over the hardcore Obama supporters and atheists. I'm all for politics and ******** if it is brief and intelligent. It has been an intense election cycle so these discussions are to be expected and healthy IMO. Give it a few more weeks and things will die down again since there isn't much the average citizen can do to affect the path of the country at this point.
