You can cut it's throat. This is more common than you might expect. Many times you have to track your prey for a while after you hit it and when you find it, the animal is down but still alive.

Yea, i would normally hold out for a bigger one and actually i thought this was the big one i had on cam earlier in the morning but it happens so quick when they are in rut. I looked thru the hemlock branches behind me where it was coming..saw points..knew it was a shooter and then i focus on the shot without looking at horns. was sorta bummed after the shot and i saw the rack good then. The pic below is the 1 i had on camera at 9am and then 11am that morning. Of course i was hunting another stand...

I've never had one alive when i got to it because i give them time to expire when you hit one with a bow. If you don't hit it good then you risk 'pushin' it and could never find it. In this case, it was a perfect heart/knicked a lung shot. Went 40yds and dropped. Never like to see anything suffer though.
