Cons to being filthy rich?

The downside to being filthy rich is the moral imperative you have to help people, which in turn leads to dependence. I know someone that's very rich, and he spends most of his money on other people. But as a result he now says he gets 3 meetings per week with people looking for money for investments, and virtually non-stop charity requests.

On top of that he's helped out friends and relatives and it occasionally works out terribly because they take his money but not his advice.

Here's one example. He was dating a girl (he's older by the way - 50+) and she wanted some money so her and her sister could start a business. They were going to put up $50k and he would put up $50k. So he puts up his share and they decide not to put up their half. So what happens? The business fails because they have no money to actually get it started properly, and more importantly they won't listen to his advice on how to actually run a business.

Relationship fails too, obviously.

When you're rich it's very tough to say to people "I'm sorry I won't give you money" when they come to you with a sad story.

Tell him to send me to school to major in financing and Ill handle all his finances for free, or lawyer and all legal issues for $1.00 since you cant give free legal service or something. SRS

There would be no cons at least for me. I wouldn't give jack **** to any of my friends because once you give something to one person, other friends will bitch and moan and it becomes a never ending cycle. I'd berate them if they asked me for anything. It probably works out better for me since I'd be able to see who my real friends are, even though I'm sure my closest couple of friends will want **** and I'd have to tell them no. I'd give money to my brother and my parents and that's it.

Move far, far away from my family and spend my time completely devoted to art (no hipster). Would only tell a few select people.

That's a very creative idea. I stay in a 3mil$ house, work a little and spend rest of my time reading philosophy/metaphysics understanding life. Have taken up bodybuilding lately for de-stressing, aesthetics and fun as well. Before that I spent 2 years doing yoga and one year learning animation. You don't really need 100mil$ to live life creatively.

I've known a lot of my friends 10-20 years, the best part about being rich for me would be to be able to phone them up and tell them to quit their ****ty jobs because we're going travelling and partying for a year.

As I said - 7 different schools in 7 different towns.
I've known most my friends for a couple years.
After you move that often, you forget about true friendships and only see them as temporary friendships.

Rich friends are some of the hollowest people you will ever meet. They watch their kids grow up to be 30 year old toddlers murdering people and trying to cover it up. Life becomes quite meaningless when you have rich friends.

i know someone who legit "filthy rich" he got really yucky once and just opened up, the main downside he said was long term wife, he says he feels he can never know if a bish legit likes him or just wants him for money, he said he doesnt mind just one night stands, who wouldnt like hot bishes all over them, and he says he can see they are shallow bishes and just furks them. but he was really worried about finding a wife who loves him for him and not his cash


only other downside i can think of, which doesnt apply to everyone, is people who drink alot and do alot of drugs, suddenly with the means to get unlimited amounts they might find themselves in a very bad way health wise may even die, i know some people and i would honestly be scared for them if they suddenly had access to such large amounts of money
