and now that i have your attention with a seemingly controversial thread, this is not a debate thread just an observation. i've met tons of broscientist bodybuilders but never met a powerlifter that didn't know what they were talking about. what's up with that?

being knowledgeable about what you are talking about. i never said "powerlifters tend to reach their goals more." i said they usually know what they're talking about more. if you asked some big azz bodybuilder about his macro, micro, and meso-cycles you'd probably sit there all day listening to what celltech he is using
edit: i doubt powerlifters care so much about mass so long as they can pick chit up

Rare serious post incoming...
Assuming the bb and pl are at the same level in their field (both compete locally, or nationally) then the pl will give better advice than a bodybuilder while they're in lower levels, because pling is basic and pl like to keep it that way. Bb is basic but low level bb get ahead of themselves and give bad advice sometimes because they're too excited about the whole thing. Example-johneffer.
Slightly more successful pl give equally good advice for the same reasons. Slightly higher level bb give better advice than lower levels because they know what's up at this point and they've gotten the clean eating, anabolic window, paleo diet, bullchit out of their system.
Top level pl give good advice for the same reason as before. Top level bodybuilders can give good advice, but also often just say what works for them which won't work for almost everyone else.
*disclaimer*
These are generalizations and do not necessarily apply to everyone, especially not your favorite instafitness warrior, God forbid they get criticized. Blah blah pl can give bad advice and all levels of bb can give good advice. Again generalizations. Now fuuuuccckkkk off

most of bodybuilding is largely broscience. "clean" food+drugs+lifting routine+sleep=grow. simple
most powerlifters heavily invested in the sport/lifestyle have put forth time into researching to optimize the time and effort they put into their training. form, equipment, programming, etc. the same could apply to bodybuilding but the great majority i would say haven't/won't

Powerlifters got strong knowing what they were doing.
Bodybuilders focus on a combination of things in which they think will maximize hypertrophy, but doesn't, so they end up spinning their wheels or simply don't know any better as they believe there's only one way to making all kindz of gainz.
^ Possibly dude. You literally think more is always better? There's a point that if increased volume hinders intensity and recovery, then it is counterproductive to the point where less volume is beneficial. There's a reason why beginners usually have higher intensity than higher volume until they've been lifting for a decent length of time.

ya i would rather heavy barbell bench press then fool around with incline decline chest cable crossovers etc etc blah blah blah any day
you can still be "aesthetic" whilst being strong as hell and having your workouts/training centered primarily around the big 3 and not wasting your time doing heaps of isolation work

Power lifters focus on numbers and progression, they like to calculate everything out and track results. Bodybuilders, for the most part, go by feel and how they look.
Bodybuilders also have to be genetically gifted. Powerlifters can train for a long time and get to a pretty competitive level regardless of genetics (for the most part). So, bodybuilders with good physiques think they know what works because it worked for them, and people believe what they say because of their physique.
