Copy and pasta from my daughter.
Texas grasps strong to the virtues of liberty and our people have always proved resilient and guarded of this sacred blessing. We do not back down to a tyrannical government, yet we stand proud of our history and our culture. The blood we have spilt for freedom will not be in vain. There is absolutely nothing that the US government brings to Texas. Our Texian forefathers agreed to the union under
a much different context, however they ensured through the constitution that it was known that ‘all power is inherent in the PEOPLE and they have the right to ALTER or ABOLISH their government as they see fit’. Those that argue that Texas cannot survive on its own or that there is something ‘illegal’ about secession are on the wrong side of history. WE are the keepers of liberty and freedom. Secession is not a new thing that just arose – we should have been freed long ago, however last night gave us a one-way ticket to a socialist nanny state that opposes the core culture of liberty loving Texas. The choice is up to each and every one of you. If you sit back in apathy, you are part of the problem. We must do everything to spread the word (shirts, bumper stickers, word-of-mouth). Best yet, join the Texas Nationalist Movement and be educated with like-minded Texans. We must take a peaceful, smart, political route. This is our time to rise up! Be part of the solution! God Bless Texas!

okay down to 49 states and more of a change of democrats taking office. you guys have what like 35 electoral votes?
good luck on your own. nothing wrong with leaving the country. but really is texas any different than every other southern state? you hate the northern states and say you are all different. love guns and jesus hate women and non whites. (nothing wrong with that i guess). im all for the confederacy but i don't feel like texas is any different than alabama mississippi or any other southern state.

You would put a few of the more vocal of the liberals in a bit of a bind. A large number of people they love to hate would be gone. In fact, they seem to define themselves by who they [think they] aren't. And being a separate country they'd have to love Texas because it wasn't the US.

Oh, it's legal. It was left open ended so that if Texas ever wanted to back out, they could. This is why Texas is the only state that talks about seceding on a serious note. I mean, hell, Texas fought and won their own, personal, revolutionary war against Mexican rule.
I think you could find more than you would expect that would support a secession, but would need nearly everyone to support it to make it a reality. One party system; Most Republicans are Democrats, but no Democrats are Republicans.
Hayek and Mises were right; they're all socialists.

Not hate! Just pure, unadulterated, abject stupidity! There is a difference. The moron isn't intelligent enough to 'hate.' There aren't enough connected cells up top. Not that hate is a good thing, it just requires an itty-bitty, glimmer, dying ember, half lit piece of 3 day old coal. This little git is a vacuous void when it comes to grey matter.
That's just my humble opinion. I could be wrong. But I rather doubt it!paolo59

So-Tex,
As Kraken said, you could secede but really, at what price? It would involve a whole of negotiations with other countries--mainly with the US which you (theoretically) seceded from, and a lot more problems.
Then again, Obama just got re-elected and that's another kettle of crawfish..."Don't call me Miss Kitty. Just...don't."--Catnip. Check out the Catnip Trilogy on Amazon.com

I can tell you one thing, governors and state houses with any sense need to begin to 'wean' themselves away from Federal Dollars! That is not an easy thing to do. The modern Federal Government is purposely and expressly designed to be a hydra. It believes, and expects its' citizens to be 'state' sponsored crack whores, dependent upon an outstretched hand for the fix. "Everyone can be bought, if you offer enough handouts!" That is the mantra and the modus operandi of the Federal Government! This has always been the case. I'm not accusing our Hugo Chavez want to be of anything new. It's just been 'jacked up.' We've got a Federal pimp, drug dealer, perveyor of all that you could ever ask or need... on steroids!

I've read about plans to add Canada and Mexico to the US and just have a North American Union.

This would be more possible and prosperous If Texas seceded and became independent in conjunction with a few other states. I sometimes wonder if this would be the next natural step for the U.S.
Not saying I support it, however it is interesting to think about. I love Texas especially the Austin area.

I have to agree. If I had a family member in the Klan, either I'd disown them or they'd disown me. I love white girls, but I ended up marrying a girl from China. When that didn't work out, I dated around for a while before I met my Native American girlfriend. That's just how it worked out. It wouldn't help that my best friend of 25 years is Jewish. Even if I had married a white non-Jewish girl, there's no way I would have taken her to meet some *sshole family member who's part of the Klan.
I'm glad I'm not in that situation. Family is important, but you just can't get past some things.
I actually knew some guys like that in high school. This guy Archie (forgot his full name) became the youngest Grand Dragon or Grand Wizard or whatever in the history of some faction of the Klan. He and his f*cking idiot friends would wear white supremacist shirts and hand out Klan literature in high school. I got in my first real fight with a couple of them when they were trying to beat up my friend. Hello, you're not going to beat up my friend for being a Jew when I'm there.
