So after living in my house for over a year it is finally time to do some upgrading.
42" LG LED, some all in one Sony surround sound speakers, 360.
Anyway I have been trying to get ideas from AVForums I want to do something like they do with the fake walls and whatnot.
Any brahs got anything like this?

sorry brahs- didn't mean to be misleading.. I am going to be building it in the coming weeks. those pics are not mine.
I have a spare bedroom that is pretty much a blank slate. I don't want to call it a man cave because its small but you get the idea.
All I have is a black leather couch, a 42" tv, xbox, cable box, receiver with 5.1 speakers.
as for the 42" tv it is a very good size for the room. However, I will be replacing it with a 55" Led as soon as I upgrade my 55"
I am going to be building up a "floating wall." This will give you an idea of what I'm going to build

MDF = Medium Density Fiberboard
Comes in sheets like drywall.
I've read installs where people just use drywall but you have to use some insulation to absorb sound where as the MDF is thick enough to do the job.
After you put it up you mud the areas where you screwed in nails and then sand the hell out of it.
The stuff needs a few coats of primer, too.

Definitely getting back into the DIY swing of things.
Going to be building a DIY sub next month.
No pics because I just have my bedroom to trick out while I'm still in school.

I don't have enough space in my house to accommodate a dedicated home theater, so mine is integrated into the living room. Well I could convert the garage into another room, but I wouldn't have room for tools then. I built my own subwoofer a while back, but that's about the extent of my DIY audio.

So I can't make it look visually appealing because my system isn't worth 10 grand ?
With my setup it will be 100% upgradeable. I can switch out the tv, receiver and speakers as I upgrade.
I'm 25 customizing MY house the way I like it.
When cash is easier to spend on entertainment I can make it as nice as I want. The wall makes a dull room look nice.

The enclosure is 6 cu feet tuned to 20hz, with a slot port and down firing driver (pet friendly). I plugged my driver specs into win isd and played around with tuning options from there. I wanted something a little different than a standard cube that could also be used as a table. Pretty happy with the results, and it bangs for a $300 subwoofer.
If you want to design your own enclosure, download winisd and plug in the driver parameters to find out how much volume you need for a specific tuning.

Go with a pro amp like a Beheringer EP4000 ($200-250 off ebay) which will provide enough power for two modest subs. It's not much more work to build two subs rather than one. Might as well go dual for a smoother bass response.
Check out avsforum & hometheatershack's DIY section for good builds and advice. You may want to go sealed if space is an issue or the wife will complain about a massive 6-8 foot ported enclosure.
If you don't feel like building your own, look into www.chasehometheater.com
Their Sho-10 speakers are amazing for their price and rival $2000 speakers for home theater use. They also have banging subs that will compete with some of the top contenders, but they aren't very aesthetic. Which really doesn't matter if you're building a man cave, right? You can hide ugly speakers and subs behind a cloth screen for your projector.
