Ive learned that sometimes its a slow process and you may not be pushing yourself as hard as you think you are...for example i always thought i trained legs with intensity...well i got myself a partner much bigger than me and ive been training legs with him and ive got to say ive never been sore the way i am when i train with him...it may not be the case with you but just figured id throw it out there. Keep pushing through it!!

Over all a good workout even without feeling good. Legs are gonna be tough today as I feel worse, but oh well. Tomorrow is my off day and I'll be going to get a follow up dexa scan. I had one back in September right after my 10 weeks on medifast and the results were horrible. Hopefully this one will show a little more lbm than last time.TEAM DEMON

Way to push through your workout despite feeling off. I have the same mentality as you when it comes to not feeling well. The "well I have a rest day coming up, I can recover then"
Nothing wrong with pushing through a cold, but if you come down with a fever or anything more severe, you are always best off giving your body the rest it needs to fight it.

Ya no fever or anything, just really swollen glands, sore throat and general crappy feeling. Gonna try to hit the gym hard though today. I have an appointment to get my snow tires put on my car today so I might have to shorten my rest periods since leg day usually lasts a while.

So I took some ibuprofen about 2 hours before I went to the gym and it helped quite a bit. Had a pretty good session today. Switched from dumbbell stiff leg dead lift to barbell stiff leg deadlift and I like them much better, I feel like I get a better stretch out of it without sacrificing my form.
Squat
160x12
190x10
220x8
235x6
Hack squat

Stiff leg db deadlift
110x10
135x10
135x10
135x10
Leg extension
115x15
115x15
115x15
Leg curl
115x12

95x12
Standing calf raise
135x15
185x12
185x12
185x10
185x10
I again didn't get to do seated calf raise. Another three people working out together and I had to leave to get to my tire appointment. I'm in the waiting room now and still have to go home and do my cardio.TEAM DEMON

I wanna hear that you got your cardio in after that tire appointment!
Good call on the ibuprofen! The last time I had a wicked sore throat, I found that an hour or so after taking like 600 mg it made a world of difference regarding the pain and swelling. Rest up tonight and hope you wake up feeling much better!

Yes it does! And thanks. I feel like a puss when I go to the gym but I gotta realize that I've only been lifting again since the middle of October, and I've been on a calorie deficit all but a week and a half so the strength gains aren't going to last forever. I figure me and Stan have another solid 6 months of cutting before I can even think of trying to add muscle.

Forgot to update my weight on here yesterday so here it goes.
Weight: 254.2 -1.4
I'm gonna push real hard to get under 250 by the end of the year as that's the first of my long list of goals I have for myself. I've never been under 250 in my married life which is coming up on 11 years in January.
Now for some good news. I had my follow up dexa scan yesterday and the results were extremely motivating. Since September 9th I have increased my lean body mass by 24 lbs and lost 34 lbs of fat! No wonder the scale has seemed like its been stuck for forever! I had an 11% bf reduction in that time. I still have a long ways to go as I still have 90 lbs of fat but it shows that what I am doing is obviously working. Now that my newb gains are almost at an end I think the weight loss will increase. I'm going to get another scan in 3 months and hopefully that one will go just as good fat loss wise, I know the lbm will not move that much. My goal for these 3 months is another 5lb lbm increase with a 30lbs fat loss so 25 lbs altogether. Which will bring me in at 233, a weight I've never been in my adult life.TEAM DEMON

Thanks Dean, the results are a little skewed though since my first scan was right at the end of my 10 weeks of medifast so I was very depleted at that time. I'm going to make my next appointment for April 8th. It's the Cubs home opener and the gym the scan is at is only 2 blocks away so I'll kill two birds with one stone. That will be a more accurate comparison.

Sitting at another company luncheon with my chicken and broccoli. The menu is french bread, Caesar salad, corn, mashed potatoes with gravy, chicken breast, prime rib and gingerbread man cookies with Ice cream for dessert. Oh well I'll look better than all of them before long!

I'm gonna push hard and not cheat at all this weekend, I'm more focused right now than I have been in a long time. My company announced at our luncheon that they will be holding a weight loss challenge starting January 21st and lasting 8 weeks. Top prize is $125, but it's also county wide through the health company they use and top prize is $1000! So I'm going to ask Stan to kick my ass for those 8 weeks to have a go at it. It's going to be tough for me to compete with people that are just starting out and able to drop big amounts.
Anyway on to yesterday's workout. I signed up at snap fitness for their 30-day trial for $9 basically so I have somewhere to go on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and New Year's Eve/day but I may stick with it idk. Yesterday was my first time there and it was pretty nice. They expanded to two retail spaces instead of the normal snap having only one. It was dead yesterday due to the snow storm that we got so I wasn't able to judge the traffic.
Seated db curl

Superset with lying db tri extension
20x10x3

Ez bar Skullcrushers
60x10x3
Wide grip bb curl
55x12
65x10
75x8
80x5(couldn't get the 6th)
Then I did a dropset to failure with a low cable with and ez bar attachment starting with 80lbs and ending at 10lbs moving down 10lbs at a time. I love the pump I get from that.TEAM DEMON

While taste is important when it comes to protein, I prefer to base my decision on the nutrient profile especially when cutting. I know ON Gold Standard is low in fat and I think maybe 4 grams of carbs per serving?
Have a look at the others that Billy recommended but if there is more than 5 grams of carbs or 3 grams of fat per scoop, I would pass on them for now

Tried out a different snap today that was pretty nice, only one free weight bench press station though which sucks but otherwise they had some nice equipment. I took care of cardio there with various forms. 12 minutes elliptical which I hate but I sweat buckets on so it must be doing its job. Then 12 minutes on the stepmill did 78 floors, and finally 12 minutes on the treadmill running uphill sprints. 4 in the time period. Workout felt good but boy are my delts sore today!

Weight: 253.0 -1.2
Very happy with the weight loss once again, it's gonna make it easier not to cheat this week. It's amazing what a little positive reinforcement can do. Really hoping that when I stay on track this next week that I will drop down to the 240's. I know it's just a number, but it's a big win for me. If my guess is correct my weight is going to start flying off soon. The newb muscle gains can't last forever and when the muscle slows down that's when the weight will fall. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see another 24lbs muscle gain at my next scan but I'm looking for 5 realistically.TEAM DEMON

Don't rush it man. Milk the newb gains til the last drop.
Plus, when I dropped that 60lbs, I had no muscle base. With a shirt on, I looked great, but without, while skinny, it looked very strange, almost like something was missing. And there was...muscle structure. Also, I have found now, after a bulk and pushing up to almost 220 once again, that taking it off slow and building muscle along with it, my skin stayed tighter and grew and shrunk with me because the pace was so gradual. The first time, I had extra skin, albeit a small amount, but I noticed even if no one else had.
Keep on target, and follow Stan's advice and experience. I have the utmost faith in your ability to achieve."The code of Bushido is harsh and relentless."
