The issue with UFC is that there is a damn fight every other week it seems like. If they had longer periods between fights with some deserving contenders for title fights that would make it much more better.

Joe Rogan is knowledgeable but I personally find him pretty annoying to listen to. I prefer Kenny Florian as a commentator since he's not as excitable but still knows what he's on about.
The other thing that annoys me about UFC is the whole lose 2 or 3 fights and get cut bullchit. I think this is one of the reasons a lot of fights have been pretty boring recently(with a few exceptions).

The talent is spread too thin over too many cards that are all $60+

Nobody cares about the weight classes under LW, just because its a Flyweight titlefight does not mean you can slack on the rest of the card's talent and get away with it, HW, LHW, MW, WW, maybe but not under LW.

Rogan is outdated and annoying. When fans boo he acts personally insulted, and goes on a tirade on what true MMA fans should want to see. Sorry, but the fact is casual fans are the main part of your business model moving forward, and to appeal to casual fans you need to do better than a 5 round hug fest. In fact, their entire live production feels outrageously outdated. They need a drastic change to their business model and production quality, and make the big fights everyone wants to see happen. Even consider changing the rules, implement a play clock for ground game. People will initially complain the UFC will be too far removed from real fighting if a ground game play clock is implemented but the truth is it already IS very far removed from real fighting.

UFC turned into a combat sport a long time ago and we all know combat sports and fighting is like comparing apples to oranges.

It's definitely on the decline. This "fastest growing sport" nonsense is a flat out lie. It has far less viewers and many of the sports bar owners I know don't carry the crappy ppv's any more. It's a sport who's core demo = 24 year old douche bags who are arrested adolescents and have the emotional maturity of 12 year olds. MMA is never even mentioned on sports radio. It's a non factor in the sports world.

this. I remember months ago when miscers with a hardon for MMA were saying it's going to surpass boxing soon. I laughed in their faces. MMA is nothing more than marketing. All these tv shows and documentaries are also completely unnecessary when only 500 people know these fighters. It's only big on the internet. No one IRL gives two ****s about MMA. The fact that an announcer, who releases podcasts about spirituality for an audience of 22yo male college students , is the most well known personality in this sport, only confirms what a joke it is.

last time i will mention pride since it is becomming somewhat annoying probably, but knee strikes to the head on the ground as well as footstomps to the head made the ground game A LOT more exciting to people who either do not train and don't know about the amount of fatigue/strategy that is involved when grappling, and also to those who fight and are professional fighters. more weapons you can utalize, more knockout opportunities, more realistic fighting.

I think if the UFC did cards focusing on a specific weight class it would be much more entertaining and watchable for the casual fan.

Example.

Have two/three major Light Heavy Cards a year. 6/4 months apart. Showcase the best of the division and have a title fight/interim title fight each card.

This will accomplish several things
1) Viewers can evaluate all of the major players in a given weight class in one night. This will be way easier for a casual fan to figure out who he likes in a given weight class and who they want to see in the next title fight for that weight.
2) All the fighters in that weight class are on the same timeline. No one has more/less rest. In the event of an injury the next man in line will be ready to step up, as will the guy behind him.
3) Several major fights (Title fight, contender fight) could always be set up for the next card based off the performance in the previous card for that class.
4) It would have more of a tournament feel and flow to it from card to card.

The UFC kind of does this from time to time, but never really commits to it. It may be too hard to coordinate with so many injuries and schedule conflicts.

even though this is a big reason i loved pride, i don't think that would do good for casual viewers.

too brutal man. plus less fighters will want to get in MMA because of fear of concussions.

I've been an MMA fan every since I saw UFC 1 and to me, the best times were probably 02-06ish, when sakuraba was murdering people, fedor was dominating, and every pride card seemed amazing.

Fighting sports need a thriving heavyweight division to be popular. Obviously that's not going on right now. Injuries this year have made me lose interest almost completely. Light heavyweight sucks because jon jones made every fighter in that division look like a child
