Then I tore my ACL and tried to live with it without surgery. I gradually had to eliminate any sports involving running as my knee would go out on me. Then I had kids, a wife, a job, and while playing what little hockey I was, my knee went out again, and ended up with part of my miniscus (sp?) jammed into my knee joint, preventing me from straightening my knee further than about 15degrees. Surgery was no longer 'optional' if I wanted to walk again.
So anyway, at 32, my knee was well healed and recovered, my weight was atrocious, and I didnt want to be that fat guy that couldnt keep up with his kids anymore. I've got 3 beautiful little girls (1 mo, 3yr, 6yr) and I need to be not only in their life, but active in it as well.
I've adjusted my diet significantly with the occasional small treat, and I hit the gym 5-6 days a week with lots of cardio on offdays, and I've dropped 35lbs + and a significant amount of body fat in the last 3 months. I couldn't do this without the support of my awesome wife though. She lets me spend the time I need to in the gym, even with a newborn in the house.
