yesterday I trained shoulders and tried the dumbbell arnold press for the 1st time.

what a good exercise,I read that it helps correct imbalance in your shoulders.does anyone else like this exercise?I did it while standing.

Be very careful of weight and form when doing Arnold Presses. It puts the rotator cuff under alot of pressure due to the nature of the exercise.
    SQ: 225x5 (High-bar ATG)
    DL: 295x5/315x1

"Many basic or compound exercises (e.g. squat, bench press, etc.) have a bell shaped resistance curves or shift the resistance through multiple muscle groups throughout the exercise's range of motion allowing the muscles to momentarily relax between repetitions. This period of momentary relaxation between repetitions allows greater opportunity for momentary blood flow permitting the clearing of acid accumulation."

Don't do them with my current program, but did this one previously, was one of my favourite exercises. Really feel the pump in the shoulders afterwards.

It is one of my staples. I usually start out with some heavy compound pressing movements. Then I finish off with those.

I've been doing them for a long time and I love them. Don't go extremely heavy with them. For instance I'll db press 70 or 80s for reps for my heaviest set. I'll only use the Arnold presses up to 50 lb. db.

^^^^ This is specifically why I never recommend 'Arnold' Presses over pressing much heavier dumbbells straight up without wasting all that energy twisting and spinning lighter 'bells.

To each his own, I guess.

    Yep.

I remember back in the 90's everyone was doing the Arnold's for shoulders, and then doing the twist thing on chest dumbbell presses too, and then the bench press with legs up and feet off the ground.

I guess that was the precursor to all this bosu ball **** we see in the gyms thses days.

Plant your feet, grab the heavy ****, and press straight up.

I use them to finish off. I do my heavy work first (push presses, hang clean and press etc), and finish with arnolds. I dont do much iso work for shoulders, so the arnold press is a good all around movement for me. I only use 50-55lbs and feel the burn at 10reps.
