I'm not a bber or a PLer. I train for functional ability.
If you're also training for functional ability, you should be doing a training program specific for that. Cross fit is gimmicky and gay.

I did crossfit last year for 3 months, 5 nights a week with a group of about 10 others.
I was only doing it because I was acting as a nutritional coach for the group.
I HATED IT! So boring. So stupid. The training didn't help me at all
And it didnt' help any of the group. Nobody lost any weight or improved at all. They would gush each night about what a great workout it was, and how much they were sweating. But when they got on the scale, there was no improvement. When we looked at the pictures, there was no improvement.
Eventually, everyone dropped out and quit.

reps brah, getting my lvl 1 next month. i don't think people should hate on any "style" of working out. if it's what you wanna do and it's going to help meet your goals then go for it. it's all about the programming at a crossfit box, go to a good one and acquire strength, cardio, asthetics, and overall fitness IMO.

It's an expensive gimmick where joining a gym to do stupid things attracts idiots.
Every few years there's some fitness craze that attempts to reinvent the wheel, and this is the new one. Instead of bench pressing, we will Shmensh Press, because those people who bench press don't know what they're doing.
I'll reveal more of my secrets when you join my gym for 200 bucks a month!
Don't be a sucker and join a gym where people are doing classic exercises, they don't work!
That's what crossfit is and it's a waste of money and time.
I've been doing classic lifting for 27 years and my strength is very functional since my body moves in all the directions in real life as it does in the gym, amazing. I got all my info about how to lift from books, friends, and the net for low, low, prices. When I'm at the gym it's not some pressure cooker of group think peer pressure to do what everyone else does, so it's relaxing.
Avoid fads.

I've no doubt the top guys who perform crossfit are amazing athletes however I once saw crossfitters do pullups like a bunch of swinging spastics and notsureifsrs. Realised wassrs and never bothered to pay attention to guys in pop socks lifting 100lbs a million times.

The best crossfitters are converted ex athletes, usually strength athletes. So whatever they were doing before hand actually prepared them better than crossfit itself. It's a mediocre program with random, inconsistent progression. I'm all for athletics over ****gytime aesthetics movement but there's still better programs that are cheaper/free for this purpose

Crossfit is a company.
They hire people like gymnasts, etc to represent their company, and THAT'S a SIGN it doesn't work. For instance, if I slap together some bogus beauty cream who will I hire to sell it? Will it be someone who actually uses it or will I hire the most beautiful model I can afford?
It will be the model because my skin cream is okay at best and really I want to fool the public and sell it to get rich.
IN CONTRAST:
You've got people on BB.com and so on who workout in their garage or the local gym WHO LOOK AWESOME and they're doing the free workouts we can all find on the net.
Spend little, do the classics, and you actually will profit.

I dont hate crossfit I hate the mentality of some crossfit people. Dont try to push crossfit on me when I know there is better programs out there. Also my gym just moved all the machines to one side of the gym and have a huge open area for crossfit now. Also that area blocks the only friggin water fountain. I just have to remember to bring a gallon jug when they are doing that sh**.... At least they have designated times for it so I dont have to go when they are there.

So Crossfit takes circuit training principles and markets them in a new package. Kind of like how P90X took "muscle confusion" and marketed is as some new, revolutionary idea. I did P90X and yeah it worked. I'll tell you why. Do circuit training with weights 3 times a week, plyo once a week, cardio once a week and Yoga for 90 minutes once a week combined with a brutal diet that allows you about 2 slices of wheat bread a day for your carbs and you too can be ripped like Tony. Nothing revolutionary in P90X, nothing revolutionary in CrossFit.
Problem I have with Crossfit is the chit form they preach you do. You aren't going to build "functional strength" by using chit form in your workouts. At least P90X always stressed good form and if you couldn't maintain good form, use a lower weight. CrossFit says, **** it just do the exercise however you can. It is like the d-bag in the gym with an Ez-Curl bar who looks like he is humping the air while he curls because he has too much weight on the bar and can't curl it properly, so the bro just thrusts his hips to get the bar up. He isn't going to get bicep strength from perform the exercise like that.
Here is the Crossfit secret- Ingage in high intensity exercise for 20-30 minutes a day, better than low intensity exercise for 60 minutes a day when it comes to conditioning. Well no chit. Hence why so many bodybuilders stress doing intervals for 20 minutes after lifting for an hour.
