I know a lot of you guys think personal trainers are just idiot rep counters but it's soooooo much more than that.
I just want to pre-frame this thread by asking that we keep it classy and have a discussion. Don't be a hater just for the sake of being a hater, if there is something you've seen, or felt about PT's in the past let's talk about it but try not to generalize and flame as a result.
I'll also say that a lot of the bad pre conceived notions about trainers were most likely as a result of 'part time trainers' - basically some kid who needed a few extra bucks and liked to workout, spent a few hundred bucks getting some BS online cert and picked up a few hours at the gym training joe blow that some slimey sales guy signed up.
FULL TIME TRAINERS build their own client base so they care a lot more about their clients, they work relentlessly long hours at ridiculous times of the day to accommodate their clients. Client goals and world class service are of top priority. I literally stress about my clients, hoping theyre sticking to our plan, making the right decisions when I'm not with them - part time trainers in commercial gyms don't give a fuuuuuuuuk generally. I'm constantly taking new courses, reading articles, getting different certifications anything I can do to help my clients get to there goals faster.
So why did that PT you saw the other day do that with his client?
Why do people pay you to count reps when they can just google stuff online?
Ask away but let's keep it classy boys.

Ask a successful full time personal trainer anything. Other PT's welcome to chime in.

It was always something in the back of my mind because I loved training myself and friends. I was lifting one day and a manager came up and asked me to take a job there, I said sure, quit the 2 bars I was managing for and gave it a shot. 3 months with no pay check until I built up a good customer base.
Highlights:
-Great opportunity for advancement
-I make my own schedule, take time off as I need it
-I make as little or as much money as I want depending how hard I want to work
-Lift when I want
-Eat when I want
-Gym clothes to work everyday
-Working in a positive environment around people do positive thing (Way different than at the bar)
-Changing lives feels greatIf you want to be a man at night, you gotta be a man in the morning.

First year doing it this year and I'm on track to hit 55-60k... This is after 3 months with no client base, no post highschool education etc
Long term career yes the company has a lot of room for advancement I am currently in a manager internship for it, goals are to just ride it out and see where it takes me
Cool man just thought it could be an interesting threadIf you want to be a man at night, you gotta be a man in the morning.

You were a manager at 2 bars?
Along with the sales job where you make $2k in a weekend?
Did you quit your actual full time carnie job where you sold pretzels to white trash?
Are you still addicted to opiate pain killers like hydrocodone?
Only been there a few months and already going to be a manager?

Running to work every morning before the sun is up with a smile on my face because I'm doing something I love to do and cannot wait to get in there and get started.
Depends what you deem to be successful. You probably gauge success by money judging by how you phrased your snarky remark (Ps came off sounding like my girl when she's PMS'ing)
Not a lot 55-60k first year
Yeah one guy down 60lbs and is a new person, girl who's down 80 now and looking awesome, doing what she loves. One old guy who could barely walk, knee has been re habbed and can now BB back squat with a small load, also down 25-30lbs.... Few more, it honestly feels amazing. If you want to be a man at night, you gotta be a man in the morning.

I always wondered how much the gym PTs make (not freelance).. The reason I never did it is because I thought the trade off (paying all that money for a stupid quali when I am already jacked and know enough about nutrition to get people in shape just to work for a weak wage) was stupid. I'd think I would do very well getting clients given my appearance.
How many hours a day do you work?

Have you ever made a female client orgasm during a workout?
Edit: The reason I ask is that I read an article on the Men's Health website that females are capable of acheiving an orgasm when working out. Couple of my buddies are PTs and they have never been able to do it; just wondering if you have?47 year old guy; 5'5"

I'm there typically 11-12 hours but I'm only training 4-11 clients a day depending on the day
I would need to see you first but judging by the fact that you train like a bodybuilder (which is fine I do to) you probably have some upper cross syndrome (Facilitated anterior muscles and a weakened posterior chain)... In which case I would want to swap BB for DB and maintain a neutral grip at least until your upper cross is sorted out and until you take care of the shoulder issues you certainly would have.
Training, courses, many certs, practical application
No only train 2 woman but made both cry at different times lolIf you want to be a man at night, you gotta be a man in the morning.
