...
All told, guys like Heath and Greene can make over $1 million per anum, while the rank and file can pull over six figures with the right amount of hustle.
Bodybuilding may never rival sports like the NFL, the NBA or the MLB, but it’s gaining; it’s vying for competitive notoriety on television, print and, even, social media. The culture code of the sport has swung from cultish curiosity to full-on international sensation. Muscleheads may appear to be freaks of nature, hulking amongst us, lifting and flexing with reckless abandon, but their drive and commitment and passion to push their bodies to the limit are just as worthy of admiration as the athletes that used to adorn your Wheaties boxes. Because when it comes down to it, bodybuilding ain’t a mystery. It’s this simple: Get big and ripped or go home.

In response to the OP:
The best of any race can compete with each other and it will be hard to split them, that's just human nature. With regards to physicality, West Africans and Northern Europeans probably have the most 'competitors' out of all 'races' (well they are a subset), with West Africans probably more so.
So, for the amount of people who take up bodybuilding, West Africans and Northern Europeans one would expect to contribute to the field in greater proportion (proportion to the amount of them taking up bodybuilding), but once it gets to the elite level being 'black' just as being 'white' won't win you a show, it's anyone's game.Last edited by breeno92; 10-13-2013 at 04:17 AM.

We cannot possibly say blacks/whites/chinese/arabs etc are any more superior than eachother because all we ever see is a handful of competitors on stage. You would need to conduct a nationwide longitudinal study measuring all sorts of variables like myostatin levels, testosterone, dietary factors, stress levels, weather environments , everything really.
But that being said, there have been more white Mr.Olympia's than Blacks. Or at least up until this year anyway, it might be even now... i cant be assed going back and counting.

They don't need to tan as much, other than that there is almost no difference I think. The black culture is just less physically lazy, they seem to play more sports and spend less time at the TV/computer than others so the average guy looks more built. At the top level it's all about muscle shape/insertions where most people are different. And its 50/50 between top levels pros.

While I was in University I met a black guy from Zimbambwe, he was a nerd and spent alot of time in his room. He had arm about 13" (estimation), but his chest was sooo HUGE it was probably around 50". He had big shoulders too, but he never lifted weights at all. And alot of other mid or west african guys here are muscular naturally. Also another thing I noticed is that white afrikaners here in SA are tall and bulky compared to whites from other countries, but I guess that's cause they have german/greek/scottish ancestry.

Haha what? I don't think black culture is any more or less lazy, that's rascist and untrue. I see plenty of fat ass black people walking around. If there is a difference in genetics, and there probably is I'm sure it's negligible. Being black alone certainly won't win you an Olympia just like being white doesn't make you rich.

Sorry, but they are. How many west african IFBB pros can you name? Many. How many asian IFBB pros can you name? Very few, if any. Yes, there are genetical freaks in every popuplation groups but some population group's genetical freaks are way way way way way more freakier than the others in some areas of expertise.
Are we going to pretend that almost all elite sprinters have west african descend? Or that almost all swimming champions are white?

With you logic there should be like a million huge bodybuilders currently in West Africa but I don´t know anyone. And all the top powerlifters and strong-men competitors would also have west african heritage. It is about culture you know. And do you seriously mean that white people are genetically gifted for swimming?

Stop posting, you have NO IDEA what you are talking about. First of all, yes white people are genetically gifted for swimming. Second, there aren't a million huge bodybuilders currently in West Africa because of poverty and war.
Are we going to pretend that the facts that almost all swimming champions are white and almost all the 100m champions are black are TOTALLY random?

It´s about culture! Brazillians doesn´t have magic soccer genes that makes them the best at playing soccer. It is their favourite sport, therefore every kid in Brazil plays soccer and therefore they are good at it. Australians are not genetically gifted at playing rugby, canadians are not genetically gifted at playing hockey. "White" people are not genetically gifted at swimming. It is the culture of a people or a nation that makes a larger number of the population practice a sport and the government to invest more money in that sport. Besides it is not one single gene that are involved in an activity, lets say swimming, it´s probably hundreds of genes involved in different combinations.

African Americans are greatly overrepresented in bodybuilding based upon their overall percentage of the total population in society. They make up about 15% of the total population in the US and just based on that you would figure that all things being equal they should make up 15% of the bodybuilding population, which we all know is not the case. I dont know what the actual numbers are but I would guess that AA make up about 50% of the total pro bodybuilders which vastly exceeds their proportional representation.
However, this statement needs to be qualified that there are many societal factors that also determine what races/ethnicities play certain sports. For example, whites greatly dominate winter sports from a proportional representation standpoint and AA are greatly underrepresented (skiing, snowbaording, hockey, ETC) but this is based upon cultural and class differences and no inherent superiority of whites when it comes to winter sports.Last edited by antithesis3; 10-14-2013 at 03:16 PM.

It's not about culture. It's ALL ABOUT GENETICS. Black people have more bone density and the heavier your bones you are the slower you swim. It's how their bodies are dude, they are not 100% the same as white guys.
More bone density = stronger but not good for swimming. In America and Europe, many many white people run 100 meters but how come there was only one white person to run a sub 10sec 100 m race (Lemaitre)? Genetics.

Are you trolling? Are you seriously saying that there is a connection between an entire populations skin color and bone density? And you base this on thew few people in top of a sport? And still, "white" people are dominating powerlifting, weightlifting and strongmen which shows thar your argument is wrong. And if people with african heritage have more bone density it is also strange that they are dominating in long distance running. And at the same time "white" people is more dominating in long distance skiing.
In scandinavia where I´m from we have a large population with heritage in the middle east. They are a minority but they are relatively dominating the bodybuilding scene here. Does it mean that they also are genetically superior at building muscles compared to northern europeans?

Genetics play a large role in just about everything but .... so what? What are you going to do, change your genetics to something more favorable? At best it's a way to make excuses why you didn't win, can't progress, and generally failed at something. Not the most productive way to spend a life. You do the best you can with what you have. This is something that most success stories have in common.

West africans and east africans are not the same. West africans are good at explosive events and eastern at endurance. Try to find a west african long distance ELITE runner, you would be in a hard spot.
And just one thing, you are from scandinavia? That explains everything, liberal of peace. No point arguing with you, you are blind from political correctness. Human races have sometimes significant differences between them no matter how much you believe we are all the same.
