Tendonitis won't ever go away; should I quit lifting?

Tendonitis plagues my wrists and my tricep close to the elbow (Tennis Elbow). I wait for the pain to go away; I'm out of the gym for two weeks, and then the pain comes back after a day of heavy lifting. It's a vicious cycle. Anyone have any similar issues and tips on how to deal with it, or is there no hope and am I forever burdened with this being an issue?

Same problem here. I was just lifting heavy too often. Cut the weight back a bit and it has helped a lot. Shame, cause I like power lifting.

1 of 2 things that helped me heal my tennis elbow/wrist pain

    1. Keep lifting but go light and do movements that dont involve alot of eblow movement/wrist movements. If it hurts to lift it, lower the weight. Along with this pick up some UC 2 joint repair stuff, Myogenix makes one that worked WONDERS. Drink loads of water.

    2. Take 1-2 weeks off depending on speed of recovery and take the UC 2 joint repair. This is what I did and I was back in the gym in no time.

Strong advice...Ya OP dont fix the root of the problem, just buy a bunch of chit to make it hurt less for a while....

Go see a doctor, specifically a sports orthopedic doctor. They've helped me out a lot with rotator cuff problems. Maybe they can give you some helpful insight.

i get it in my forearm when doing curls.. ezy curls lol not so much barbell curls... it is still not healed, i have to use the curl machine and i cant really grip the bar, so i curl with open hands. i dont want to stop working my muscles altogether, so i do few sets of curls, when i get home i ice it up a few times, this type of injury takes a long time to heal, and you have to realise everytime you exercise the muscles and you strain your tendons, your undoing any healing that might of happened.

so either stop doing all exercise with it for 6 - 8 weeks, or minimize the weight and only do what you can without hurting it until it heals (may take longer).

Tennis Elbow is from a muscle in your arm becoming inflamed and pressing on a major nerve.

So, you take ibuprofen daily, for awhile, and stop doing the movement. Usual, tennis elbow comes from violent twisting your arm, because many tennis shots require it. With lifting you may be doing something weird, like jerking around instead of having good form.

Also, I haven't had any join or tendon pain since switching to a lower weight high volume routine, so try that. I'll bet the pain drops while gains go up.

I have it in my wrist too brah. I started using a wrap on my wrist and for the past week my lifts have been okay. The pain is still there when I get home so I dont know...I even took a couple of weeks off. I used to get a random wrist pain but it developed into this. I can't extend my right wrist back without it hurting...my front squat form fukked it up

Just to add, I brought it up to my doctor and he suggested me trying a wrap for a while. Next time I see him I'm going to get referred to a specialty doctor. Not sure which category this would fall under...PT?

I dont know what you can do with elbow tendonitis..

But I have wrist tendonitis, cant do any barbell curls (ez or straight) ..... However, I can do DB curls with little to moderate pain, hammer curls and that wide arm double cable curl thing.

If you can do DB curls, make that part of your main curling routine.

You cant do barbell curls cause they hurt or what? I can do EZ curls without it hurting, but people say not to do ANY form of barbell curls if you have wrist tendonitis. For the past year I haven't been able to do the forearm curl exercise cause my wrist would hurt like shit

I had terrible bursitis in my right shoulder due to the abundance of pushups while in the military. It lingered for a couple of years after I was out. I was going to the gym then and just pressing through the pain. I finally quit lifting and started doing only light shoulder exercises/rotations for a few mths. It worked. Pain free now and have been for years.

Yeah it hurts too much. Practically impossible because it hurts even when I just curl the bar.

Have you tried behind the back barbell curl for forearms? that's about the only direct forearm exercise I can do without my tendonitis flaring up. Reverse curls and wrist curls are too painful.

The sucky thing is that I'm doing stronglifts and it's ONLY lifting heavy and the upper body exercises are all about using that wrist + elbow support . This is tough chit brahs.

Maybe it isn't tennis elbow, because it's definitely a tendon that is in pain.

I think I messed my elbows up doing skullcrushers. I was up to 45 lbs on each side of the ez-bar at one point for 68 and now I can't even do them with 30 on each side without some pain. No other exercises hurt them though, just crushers and occasionally overhead db extensions.

work on your grip strength, use those gripper strength things. Ignore most other advice. Been there, grip strength was the problem.

Friday night. Date night in Miami. Every night is a date night in Miami, and everyone's having sex. But for me, sex never enters into it. I don't understand sex. Not that I have anything against women, and I certainly have an appropriate sensibility about men, but when it comes to the actual act of sex, it's always just seemed so undignified. But I have to play the game.

I have Tennis Elbow OP. I wear a elbow strap when I'm playing sports/working out and it helps a lot. Especially when I bench. At night before I sleep, I use cold therapy and just put an ice pack on it for 20 mins. I can already tell the difference. In addition to this, I take fish oil and vitamin D which is supposed to help inflammation.

Don't give up brah. I know the pain.

I have the same thing. I believe it's tendonisis (chronic tendonitis?) Anyway it comes in waves now. I won't have it for several months and then it will be excruciating for several weeks. I just work through it. Ibuprofen sometimes helps. Icing sometimes helps. ALWAYS warm up and stretch properly. Sh8t sucks though brah. I feel your pain.

This was my problem. I cut back, stretched properly and took glucosamine (actually a drink called Supple that is for joint health) and now its hardly a problem unless I do 300+ push ups or if I do push ups on stability balls.

If you havnt already, see a doc.

You can only make it worse if you keep re-injuring it like that. I had a similar thing happen with me and my hips from squatting. Off and on for a few months. Saw doc, then saw pt, then saw sports medicine doc. He told me there wasnt anything I could except take a very long break and ice/ibuprofen it. He told me to not do anything to agravate it for 6months to a year.
