I'm not talking jacked. I've got a weightlifting routine and a diet. They're doing what I want them to - but they're not getting me fit. They can't.
When I mean fit, I mean having good cardiovascular health. The other day I went for a morning run and was gassed out in barely any time. I was tired just jogging on my way to where I wanted to do suicide runs, and even with that jogging I stopped/started every now and then.
This showed me that I need to work on my fitness. Getting jacked is one thing, but I wanna be fit too. No wonder I sweat practically whenever I walk anywhere longer than 10 minutes away - I'm unfit as hell!
The thing is, I've got no idea how I can actually get fit. I don't want to just aimlessly jog or run about my area, I want to do something that I know is a proven method of getting fitter. A friend of mine has recommended the Insanity workout, and I've had a look at it, but it requires 6 days a week of crazy cardio...while that sounds great, it means that (A) I'll have to lift (up to and hour or longer) and do these intense 30/40 minute cardio sessions in the same day and (B) some of the stuff in that program looks fcking retarded.
So have any of you guys ever gone from unfit to fit, or know of proven ways to get drastically fit? I don't mind if it takes 2 months, 4 months or longer, for a significant improvement in my fitness, I just want to incorporate something into my training that actually gets me that goal.
Thanks.

Hm. I consider myself in pretty average cardiovascular health (AKA. I don't do any cardio) and I can still manage to run a mile without the ill effects.
I'd say just do HIIT or long distance running, or even go swimming. I know of no program out there specifically geared towards cardiovascular health.Attract toxic girls but I'm not toxic crew

Do you want to just in general have better cardiovascular health? or run/sprint, faster/longer? I would honestly just jump rope for a good 10-15 minutes straight. Great high intensity cardio. Maybe take a break in the middle or whatev. But if you wanna run longer, sprint faster and all that, then do just that. Time yourself on a set distance and try and move up say, every week or two.

The main thing is I just want my heart to be healthier, to be able to do more without getting completely gassed, etc. No specific "run this fast/jump this high" goal or anything like that, just a desire for better fitness. I figure burpees should be good for that, just because once I get into them I get completely shattered, so getting better at them and being able to do more without getting out of breath must translate into general stamina and a healthier heart, right?
