Sounds about like what I hear a lot of folks who do (or have) lived in a country with universal health care say. Sure, everyone may be covered, but there are various issues with cost, quality of care, etc.

The bottom line to me is that it costs a certain amount to train doctors, build and operate hospitals, pay for drugs, etc. "The people" are going to be footing that bill one way or another. Socialization doesn't make it cheaper overall, it just (theoretically) spreads the cost to more people, and/or makes the rich pay more. Those costs may be hidden in how income tax is handled or whatever, but the costs are still there.

The only way to decrease costs overall is to decrease the cost of "non value added" things that are associated with health care. Limiting the liability of hospitals or drug companies to decrease liability insurance costs is an example.

Looking forward to watching Luck play tonight, even if it's against the lowly jags. Who'd have guessed Indy would have a shot at the playoffs this year?

Luck has been garbage on the road. Jacksonville is going to make this a close game, if they don't win.

Might be a decent play. Not much going offensively for the Jags.

I get that Obama is a nice guy, he's a socialist, he cares about those who are less fortunate and in return they keep voting for him, but a rumored 2.6 trillion over 10 years for a system (Obamacare) that will still leave around 30 million uninsured sounds like madness – the icing on the cake is muslims are exempt from the mandate because they apparently consider insurance a form a gambling.

The younger demographic living at home sponging off their parents won't mind since they're not picking up the tab. To them Obama is a cool guy on Twitter while Romney was some old rich dude talking about binders full of women.

I laugh when these kids talk up the US as the most powerful and successful nation on earth while at the same time nuthugging Obama and embracing his socialist agenda.

Newsflash: the US sure as f**k didn't reach those lofty heights on the back of socialism.

I seriousness, Obama isn't a bad president. The economy is largely out of his control, and any president in his position would probably have handled the cards they were dealt in more or less the same manner. Obamacare and various socialist agenda items, however, I do not agree with. As with socialism in general, the ideas always sound nice, but the implementation leaves a lot to be desired. America should really go back to doing what it did best: innovating things, making things, and letting the free market do its job.

The reality that life isn't fair, that some people are more successful than others, and that everyone can't have everything they want doesn't sell, though. Easier to promise everyone more recess and a Ferrari.

I don't really enjoy the political discussions and this will more than likely be my only comment anywhere regarding politics. ^^ Quoted "free market" part for 100 percent truth!

Which is precisely what made America the greatest country in the world.

It's all good and well to sit around talking about peace, love, and happiness, but a country dependent on government handouts, taxing the crap out of anything that moves is not a recipe for success. Who would want the headache of trying to get a business off the ground with a bunch of new taxes? Success should be rewarded, not discouraged.

Romney was a flip-flopper during the campaign, he was all over the map trying to please everyone and was rightly called out for that, but what annoyed me was the way they attacked him on his wealth as if being rich and successful is something to be ashamed of. Obama even made some quip about it during the debate which was poor form given he's already earned millions and there's a huge pay day waiting when he leaves office and hits the speaking circuit.

I don't hold it against Romney for being rich. Anyone running for president is going to come from wealth. It's the way that he presented himself as a typical "rich guy" that bothered people. It seemed like he truly believed he wasn't "blessed" with the family he was born into and that he was only rich because he worked harder than other people. He just seemed so out of touch with the typical person and I think that's what really helped Obama win the campaign.

Who would want the headache of trying to get a business off the ground with a bunch of new taxes? Success should be rewarded, not discouraged.

It's kind of bizarre that being rich or successful in America has become a bad thing, at least if you got that way in business. Nobody seems to have a problem with actors or singers being millionaires, but if you worked hard and built a business it's become the "in" thing to imply that you either got there on the backs of your fellow man, or that even if you're a nice guy you really don't need that money. So what's the problem if someone else takes it? I don't get it.

The idea that wealth & success come from your own efforts, that anyone can innovate and become rich, that America is the land of opportunity, were the backbone of the nation. It was ingrained from the time of the pilgrims through WWII. And yet, it's taken only a generation or two for a lot of that to be bred out of our DNA, it seems. The sense of entitlement that people have is just ridiculous. Everyone has a "right" to own a home, a smartphone, a new car, a job, etc. No. You have the opportunity for those things. Not a right.

You guys read Atlas Shrugged? I'm about halfway through right now - long as hell, but really good. Hard to believe how applicable it is today being written in the 50s.

It's clear he failed to connect on many levels, but there's no question many have grown to resent wealth and that became quite apparent during the campaign. The simple fact is no president is going to relate to the average guy on the street. Ol' Barry won't ever have to worry about where the next pay check is coming from – he's set for life.

    Exactly.

Musicians and actors are often the worst offenders. They enjoy all the trappings of wealth, live in enormous homes tucked away in gated communities, get around in private jets and limos, but because they've got many fans who live modestly they like to act like they're in touch with the average guy on the street. Cringeworthy. If they really wanted to make a difference they'd give more of their wealth away instead of blowing a lot of hot air up everyone's asses about politics.
